Description

Idyllically positioned where forest meets the sea, Saraig enjoys a lovely spot surrounded by wildlife and is close to many mountain walks, coastal paths and forest trails. The views from the cottage are breath-taking and the cottage itself is warm and comfortable. There is so much to do in the area, a week is hardly long enough.

Saraig is incredibly quiet and peaceful standing alone in a bay with just one other cottage, and four miles away from the A87. Because of this setting, the cottage enjoys the best of both worlds - a tranquil sense of remoteness yet only a short drive to the A87 which in 20 minutes by car will take you to Kyle of Lochalsh with it's doctors' surgery, dentist, vet, pharmacy etc.

Apart from the myriad walks of all descriptions taking in miles of coastline, many inland lochs and lochans, and countless rivers, burns and waterfalls, there are many boat trips on offer plus wildlife spotting, gardens to visit, castles (the famous Eilean Donan Castle is

Apart from the myriad walks of all descriptions taking in miles of coastline, many inland lochs and lochans, and countless rivers, burns and waterfalls, there are many boat trips on offer plus wildlife spotting, gardens to visit, castles (the famous Eilean Donan Castle is not far away and can be seen across the loch in the distance), Iron Age brochs, not to mention the Isle of Skye and the many other islands off the west coast.

One last note - it is possible to get married anywhere in Scotland including on the beach, and this is precisely what two of Saraig's guests did. With a piper piping the bride from the cottage, it was a fairytale wedding as the sound of the bagpipes echoed across the loch and around the mountains. The bride herself described it as magical.

The Scotland region

Ratagan

Mountains, lochs, miles of coastline, wildlife galore; pony trekking, boat trips, seal spotting, fishing, castles, ancient ruins; otters, pine martens, herons, porpoises, deer, wild goats; forest tracks, waterfalls, mountain tracks, coastal tracks, glen walks, river walks - all of this is in the immediate area!

A little further afield (about a half hour drive) you have the delightful Plockton, the lovely Glenelg, and the beautiful Isle of Skye. Further still, but still within easy reach, is gorgeous Applecross, accessed by the highest road in Scotland, Loch Ness, Ben Nevis, Torridon - even Sutherland is possible for a day out if you like touring by car.

House rules

I don't take a damage deposit because I have had some great guests over the years who have respected the cottage. All I ask is that guests bear in mind that any breakages/damage will have an impact on the enjoyment of the Saraig by the next set of guests so please let me know of any as soon as possible so that I can arrange to get them rectified in time for the next group. It is important to me that things are just right for your arrival - this helps me ensure that it is. Many thanks, Paula
