La Mouleyre is a stunning Chateau set in 3 acres of beautiful grounds surrounded by some of the world famous vineyards and Chateaux of St Emilion. Positioned at the head of a lovely small valley it has exquisite views over the tranquil landscape of the surrounding vineyards to the hills of the Dordogne River.
This charming retreat is in the heart of wine country, just 7km from the UNESCO World Heritage medieval village of St Emilion. It is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy and from which to explore the many pretty villages and historic towns of the area and experience wine tastings at the most iconic chateaux.
Built in 1602, it was part of the Chateau La Mouleyre ( St Emilion Grand Cru ) until the vines were sold to the neighbouring Chateau Faugeres and the house, barn, chais (wine aging cellar) and grounds were purchased in 2008.
Renovated sympathetically so it retains all the original charm into a beautiful country retreat, its 17th century origins are evident in its beamed ceilings, stone walls, tower, marble and wood floors, historic fireplaces, shuttered windows. Now a delightful blend of fully modern amenities in a centuries old structure, furnished with an uncompromising approach to comfort.
The spacious and elegant interior allows guests to be as social or as private as they wish. There are 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and 4 reception areas offering comfort for friends or multi-generational families.

Several alfresco dining options-- under a huge tree; on the main south facing terrace ( umbrella ); and in the tranquil inner courtyard. Large stainless steel mains gas BBQ. Numerous seating and sunbathing options.
Traditional markets with fresh produce close by all week. Great restaurants in the area. Fascinating Bordeaux around 45 minutes with beautiful beaches, including Arcachon-- famous oysters and Europe's largest sand dune--a further 30 minutes. All of the other great Bordeaux wine areas--Pomerol, Medoc, Graves, Sauternes, etc. within easy reach. Children's activities at several locations nearby. For golfers, the St. Emilionnais is 10 min and Chateau des Vigiers 25 min.
The area around La Mouleyre is great for cycling (4 bikes) and for hiking/walking through the vines. Horseriding nearby. A small lake with a sand beach 15 min away and fishing/canoeing/rowing on the Dordogne. Near Castillon la Bataille, great spectacle of re-enactment ( ~500 actors ) of last battle of 100 years war several evenings during the summer.
