Description from owner

Description

Wheelwright Cottage is a pretty, warm, snug and self contained cottage attached to 1 West Dean, right in the centre of the village of West Dean. West Dean lies on the Hampshire/ Wiltshire border. The cities of Winchester, Southampton and Salisbury lie within a 20 mile radius of West Dean. Stonehenge World Heritage Site is approximately 18 miles away and Lyndhurst in the New Forest approximately 14 miles to the south.

West Dean has been awarded the 'Best Kept Small Village in Wiltshire' by the Council for the Protection of Rural England. The River Dunn flows through the centre of the village. There are many local walks; for cyclists, the village is on national cycle route 24; and there is fishing further downstream on the River Dunn and the nearby River Test.

The village has its own railway station 2 minutes walk from the cottage: Salisbury, the next station going west, is the gateway station for the West Country; Mottisfont and Dunbridge is the next station going east. Mottisfont is famous for its historic Abbey and rose garden owned by the National Trust. The heritage cities of Bath and Winchester can be reached by train in 1hr 30min and 50min respectively

The New Forest is just a 15 minutes drive away. Hampworth golf club is only 6 miles away.

“Lovely village location”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2018

Comfortable, self-contained studio, with everything needed for a few days stay. Lots of great historical places to visit in the area, such as: Winchester – what a great Cathedral, Petersfield – where there was a market square display of vintage bicycles, motor bikes and cars. Stonehenge, fantastic place! The Australian Rising Sun at Codford and the Fovant Badges, Australian and New Zealand war graves, these are great for all of us to see as they are our history, UK, Australia and New Zealand. Took the car on the ferry over to the Isle of Wight and had a drive around. Well worth the trip!

Response from the owner Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review, very much appreciated. Do hope that you will have the time to visit again one day.

“Fantastic!!”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2018

To say this was a fantastic place to stay would be an understatement. Patricia and her husband could not of been more welcoming and obliging and friendly, and there two dogs were just as friendly as they were!. Our holiday had a bit of a bad start with car trouble but the welcome we received when we eventually arrived cheered our spirits. The cottage was so cosy and clean and full of useful literature and little comforts to get you started. Our little boy was very comfy in the cot provided and Patricia very kindly left some of her grandchildrens toys for him to play with, which kept him entertained for the week. The village itself was so peaceful and everyone we met was pleasant. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to explore the area as it is in a very central place too. Thank you for making our stay wonderful Patricia.

Response from the owner What a lovely review, thank you so much. We very much enjoyed having you to stay and do hope that you will come back to see us again. I hope you had a trouble free journey home?

“A lovely peaceful place to stay in, comfortable bed & friendly owners who are there when you need them.”

A lovely warm clean place to stay & very comfortable bed. Patricia kindly left a few essentials such as tea & milk etc to start us off which was very much appreciated & was very helpful. Great place to stay, near to beach, new forest, Salisbury & local walks so plenty to do. We will come again which is a good recommendation.

Response from the owner Thank you so very much for taking the time to write such a lovely review, very much appreciated.

“Wheelright cottage.”

Had a lovely stay. Beautiful area, with the train station very close. I wasn't disturbed by the trains, even though I'm a light sleeper. The cottage is lovely and cosy, made me wish I had underfloor heating at home. Definitely would recommend and stay again. Couldn't have asked for a better landlady, Patricia was very welcoming and helpful. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. I really do hope that you will both have the time to visit us again. Hope you have a lovely christmas.

“Fantastic place to stay”

This was a fantastic place to stay. Clean functional studio with the owner going above and beyond by providing the essentials for when you arrive. Owner is friendly and most welcoming, we will definitely be staying here again. Easy travel for both Longleat and Portsmouth Docks and the village provides quaint charm with beautiful views.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a lovely review, very much appreciated. Do hope you will both come and stay again soon.
