“Lovely stay in a unique house”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2015

We spent a lovely week at Francescas house on the top of the hill. It was an incredible experience to get to stay in a real italian home which is decorated beautifully and has a real "soul". This kind of atmosphere you get only by dedication and loving your home while living there. It is impossible to capture this kind of ambiance in photos or text. We went to Pisa, Florence and Fiesole but also spent lovely days in the garden and by the pool. Every meal we made in Francesca's kitchen tasted wonderful. The view from the house was amazing. We also loved the evenings in the livingroom listening the chirring sound of the grasshoppers and planning the next day. Francesca has a nice way to be close enough so you feel that you can ask anything anytime but still spend your Holiday in privacy. Our week was absolutely lovely from the first, exciting drive by the curvy, charming path to the minute when we had to say goodbye and hopefully see you again!

“Stunning view ...”

I and my models had a great time here. Villa Ortensia is simply lovely and intimate. The view is simply stunning ... Nature, green and cleaned air make this villa the perfect stay for a photographer and his staff. We'll be back for sure. Thank you Francesca

“Amazing hospitality and accomodations.”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2014

Our stay at the lovely Villa Ortensia just outside of Sarzana, began with meeting Francesca. She was very warm, friendly, informative and sincerely concerned that our visit would be memorable. We were excited to see the beautiful hillside villa with the breathtaking views in every directon. The house was warm, charming and spotlessly clean. Francesca had surprized us with treats for our evening meal along with wine and breakfast items. The bathrooms were also supplied with all our esential needs. This was truly an unexpected surprise. All the rooms were handsomely decorated with antiques and family memoriabilia. Francesca's attention to detail were greatly appreciated and we enjoyed the house, grounds, pool, terraces more than we could imagine. It was so wonderful that we chose to spend some days just relaxing at home. Yes there is an eight minute ride up the hill to get there, but it was well worth it. It became easier with each trip. Of our entire trip (3 weeks) this was our favorite for both the accomodations and the hospitality. We can't wait to return. Thank you Francesca.

“Beautiful villa high up on a hilltop!”

Reviewed 24 Nov 2013

We stayed at Villa Ortensia for six days/nights early October. Although it was too cold to swim, the grounds were gorgeous, with distant views of the Mediterranean Sea. We stood next to the swimming pool to watch the sun set in one of the most picturesque places I have ever been - beautiful mountaintops, dotted with little villages, and the sun's reflection of the say beyond. I loved the tiled outdoor patio with its own fireplace for grilling. The kitchen was lovely, with marble sinks, countertops and tabletop. The dining area was elegant, the perfect place to savor the fresh foods we had prepared in our attempt to recreate the essence of the true Italian dining experience. My sister and her husband had the room with the sea views from every window. I actually preferred my husband's and my room with its elegant décor and beautiful views. I cannot say enough about how wonderful our stay was - perfect in every way. We have already recommended Villa Ortensia to our friends who are considering a similar Tuscan experience.

“Wonderful oasis in Italy”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2013

My husband and two adult children stayed at this beautiful villa for a week and it was wonderful. The villa is in perfect condition, beautifully decorated and every detail seen to. Francesca was the most wonderful host and great to work with. Her home is amazing. We all agreed we would never rent this villa if it was ours, but we are so glad she does. It is equipped with everything you might need. She even greeted us with typical ligurian food and a nice bottle of wine for our first night, which was great because we didn't have to out to get supplies. The house and decor is so beautiful you can't help but look around and feel like you are in a museum. The bed linens were so cozy and the towels nice and big. The views were amazing from every angle and we spent many a night enjoying wine and looking at the view. We also really enjoyed cooking and eating al fresco by candlelight and thinking how lucky we were to have found Francesca and Villa Ortensia. The road up is a little tough but it is well worth it to call this place home for a week. Thank you, Francesca, for sharing your beautiful home with us.

“Stunning family villa exceeds expectations!”

Reviewed 15 Sep 2013

We stayed at Villa Ortensia for a one week family reunion and could not have found a more perfect place to enjoy the Cinque Terre and surrounding area. Francesca was so warm, welcoming, enthusiastic and helpful, making our holiday a total delight. Our excursions in the area were all wonderful but the best part was being at this beautiful villa, enjoying the breathtaking views and refreshing pool. The drive up the hill with its hairpin turns was challenging and fun! (Our adult sons who did most of the driving particularly enjoyed that part but it may not be for everyone.) The villa is immaculate and filled with antiques and everything one could possibly need. High quality linens and a thoroughly equipped kitchen were a pleasure to use. It's even more beautiful than the pictures suggest. It felt authentic as it is a true family home. We do not hesitate to highly recommend Fransesca's villa for any group looking for a true Italian vacation experience.

“Beautiful House and garden with stunning views”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2013

We were welcomed by Francesca who was very friendly and hospitable and had organised food and drink for when we arrived which was very nice after a long journey. The house was beautiful, full of lovely furniture and paintings which gave the house a very personal feel. The pool was great and the house had fantastic views overlooking the sea and our local town where we had some lovely dinners! The only slight down side was the journey up to the house which would take a good 10 minutes on a rather winding from the main road. This was initially a little daunting but we soon got used to it! Overall a beautiful house and garden and we had a great holiday and were sad to leave! Thank you Francesca!

“The Italian hills”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2012

We had two superb weeks in the villa with high temperatures and clear blue cloudless skies. We were met by Francesca on arrival as arranged and she left us some food and drink for our first night which was very kind. The villa had every amenity that we required, very good sized rooms, a large kitchen and outdoor dining area as well as indoor dining areas and a large sitting room. As the weather was so good we made great use of the pool altjough we did travel to do some sightseeing visiting Pisa and Cinque Terre both less than an hour's drive away. We also visited the beach at Carrara. The villa was spotlessly clean with good quality furniture and plenty of amusments with Sky tv, wi-fi etc. The villa is reached via a winding, single track hillside road but as villa is near the top of a large hill the views are worth the drive being spectacular, with far views accross the nearby villages to the sea. This results in wonderful sunsets and the view to the lights of the town of Sarzana below. Families with very small children would need to be careful of the pool and take care with the furniture, especially any glass fronted units.
