From the owner

Restored traditional stone barn and sheepfold (themonia) at the top of Ano Petali. Two indipendent bedrooms, a common room on the 1st floor and a small kitchen and bathroom carved on the bedrock. Fully eqquipped for relaxing holidays or inspiration. Near the capital Apollonia and close to free parking lot.

The property lies at the top of a hill, named by the nearby historic church of St Antipas (1636), next to the picturesque village of Ano Petali. The old barn and sheepfold has been renovated by the owner (professional restorer) to a cozy cottage. All the features have been preserved in order to maintain the rural Cycladic style and minimum extras have been added for comfort and practical needs. The cave barn has been transformed to a small wc and shower inside the natural rock and the feeding openings serve as shelves and closets. The front sheepfold is now a shady porch overlooking the village of Apollonia and the nearby islands to the east while the wooden roofs of the sheltered sheepfolds have been reinforced and serve as sundecks with breathtaking views to both sunrise and sunset and they are quite spacious for yoga or other activities.

The two sheltered sheepfolds serve as double bedrooms (a small one and a large one) and the upstairs room (actually the shepherd's room) can serve as a common room or an extra bedroom for guests. The small but fully equipped kitchen lies at the back inside the natural rock. All the rooms are independent and connect by a small central yard. The barn and the floor room are sheltered by very large schist stones that have been restored with a lot of effort and represent a unique and rare architectural feature which adds to the authentic experience. The thick stone walls (1m) have also been preserved in expense of space since they create a cool environment without the need of energy consuming and aesthetically unpleasant ac apparatus.

The master bedroom has an extra single folded bed and the floor room has two camp beds for guests. There is a boiler for hot water. The kitchen is fully equipped (dishes, electric appliances etc) and there is a small electric oven with two stovetops. The fireplace on the first floor is fully operational and equipped for barbeques. The small garden at the back is full of local scents (lemon, sage, lavender, thyme, oregano) and our pride, the bougainvillea.

The surroundings are quite and cozy. The farmer neighbors are very friendly and helpful and they can provide local delicacies (fruits, vegetables, home made cheese and wine). The communal parking lot (free) is only five minutes away. The paved path leads straight to the capital Apollonia after a 10 minutes walk downhill (and 20 minutes uphill). Several trails (some paved and very well marked) start from the surrounding area and offer an awesome opportunity for hiking exploration, leading to monasteries, farmhouses, archaeological sites, beaches and amazing views.

    If Petros (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
