Stay off Sirigiya's beaten track in this colorful garden house. Price is for a double room.
The Space
Tharindu's cute, small home was built in 2015, especially for guests who like to stay away from touristy Sigiriya town. The home was build by the host's uncle to support his family and to earn some income in financially difficult times. Currently, one of the home's two rooms is available to host guests, a nice room with a double bed, big windows and an attached bathroom.
Interaction with Guests
You'll be hosted by 19-year old Tharindu and his grandma Kiri Amma, who all live in the house opposite the guest house. Just out of high school, but responsible beyond his age, Tharindu manages the home and takes care of guests, while grandma helps with the cleaning and cooking. Tharindu speaks a little bit of English, not enough to have an in-depth conversation, but enough to manage his guests' requests. He also has a safari jeep, which he uses to take guests on safari to Minneriya's wildlife park and he can arrange other types tours such as fun tuk tuk journeys.
The Neighborhood
Located on the Ahalagala road, the home is just a kilometre from Sigiriya. This is a shorter, alternative route with great viewpoints, going directly to Sigiriya's Maha Viharaya temple. Some guests like to check out this temple before visiting Sigiriya Rock. Along the same Ahalagala road, about 1.5 kilometres from the homestay, is the Pidurangala Rock, known among tourists as 'Little Sigiriya'. Some guests like to climb this Pidurangala Rock instead of Sigiriya to save the money on entrance tickets and because it's a cool hike off the beaten track.
