Alder Mews.... imagine your own private guest cottage nestled among mature oaks, vineyard and pasture on a beautiful 20 acre property in an exclusive area close to numerous wineries and 10 minutes from the historic and charming Sonoma Plaza shops and renown restaurants. After a day of wine tasting or exploring the Sonoma/Napa Valleys, return to your bucolic retreat. Savor a glass of wine by the half acre fly fishing pond, or bring your own rod and catch a few big mouth bass before the resident blue heron gets them. Relax, unwind, and escape your everyday routine.

It is hard to imagine that this 1,100 foot pristine and comfortable cottage was once stables for thoroughbreds and quarter horses. A private pastoral drive takes you past the pond with willows and water lilies to the present barn, small family winery and casita. Dine on a large screened in porch overlooking a private rhododendron garden with fountain and valley views through the trees. The cottage has an open living/dining/full gourmet kitchen floor plan with a bedroom with king bed, study and 2 bathrooms (one with shower, one with a walk in Jacuzzi tub). A gas fireplace beneath a 50 inch 4K HD TV adds to the luxurious and comfortable ambiance.

Alder Mews has all the conveniences of home and more: Gas Wolf stove and oven, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, full size refrigerator with ice maker, automatic hot water dispenser, coffee maker/toaster, dishes pans and cooking utensils, spices, linens, washer/dryer, TV (all Direct TV channels and access to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon prime ), high speed internet, air conditioning and gas barbecue.

Guests are welcome to use the swimming pool in the summer, but the pool, while private, is closer to the main house than the cottage. Most often guests will have the pool to themselves. However, it is shared if the grandchildren and family come to visit.

There is a variety of information in the cottage to help you with planning your activities and sample restaurant menus for your dining adventures. Your hosts have lived in the valley for over 30 years and are always happy to help with further information and planning.

One to two well behaved, neutered and friendly adult dogs (not barkers) are welcome with prior arrangement and dog information. There will be an additional one time $50 dog fee, collected at checkin. The cottage yard is fully fenced. Your dog will love all the new intriguing smells and room to romp, and if he is a water dog, swimming in the pond. Sorry, we cannot accommodate cats.

This is a nonsmoking property. The property is not appropriate for children due to the proximity of the large pond. However, infants who do not walk can be accommodated and a pack and play can be provided. Sorry, no parties.

Cottage is on a 20 acre property. It is about 125 yards from the main house and separated by shrubs, trees and fence (cottage yard/garden is fully dog fenced). It faces the pond and pasture, not the house. Owners are on the property but are very careful to respect the privacy of guests.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Alder (the owner) a message.

If Alder (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
