Welcome to Otter Haven, 100 acres of original and restored prairie (started in 1975) along the Namekagon River. Whether you'd like to stroll through the low meadow grasses and wildflowers, or wander about the oak Savannah, take a leisurely tube down the Namekagen River, or fish the spring-fed ponds, we're confident the natural charm will beset you. You might then pull out an old sketchpad, or paints, or bring along your photography skills. Perhaps you'd prefer the classic canoe, outdoor fire-pit, and s'mores, or rather an old-fashioned exploration of new knolls, islands, and wooded trails. If you're inquisitive enough, and still enough, you'll find our other regular residents: Deer and Heron, Otter and Beaver, Raven, Fox, Eagle, and Squirrel. Each trail offers its own discoveries and delights - like a traditional Native American Earth Lodge on one of our 5 islands, or a riverview outcropping of 6 oak trees perfectly situated to watch the river flow. So, wander as you will, you never know what you'll find.
For your vacationing comfort, we present our Guest House. For a 3 night minimum stay, at $160 per night, and $40 per night per individual beyond the first four individuals, our guests are provided an economical and picturesque stay. (During the Birkie nightly rates are valued at $200 per night, and $50 per individual past 4 individuals) A stroll along the sidewalk above the pond will bring you to the main entrance: the Great Room (30'x30'). The 14' vaulted ceiling angles over a space fit for dining, dancing, reading, and simply resting. The elegant dining room preens in the sunlight from a wall of south facing windows, overlooking the spring fed pond complex with 5 small islands. French doors open to the south, allowing one out onto the deck. The Great Room also contours a study corner, an upraised reading and resting area in the opposite corner, and a social sofa space gathered around the 4th corner's fireplace. These sleeper sofas don a night cap just as easily to offer a perfect slumber party space.
A few steps down from the Great Room, through a set of double doors, enter into the Kitchen (15'x18'): a galley-style space painted a peaceful underwater blue with sandy colored tile. New electric appliances (large refrigerator and electric stove) and custom-made countertop built from the tamarack and black ash of Otter Haven, offer a comfortable place to prepare meals.
Follow the tiles into the Bathroom (10'x15') to an elegantly tiled shower with opposing shower heads. The same serene blue splashes about the walls, over a simple single vanity, and back out to an alternate exit of the kitchen: the Master Bedroom.
A few steps up from the kitchen, you will find a queen-sized bed basking in the southern sunlight of a picture window. The window's view captures the expanse of the front pond. Glance away from the window, to the western wall, and you'll find a sleeper sofa available for a day's loafing, while across the room a reading area rests in the breeze of windows open to the east. The Master Bedroom also claims a private entrance and deck that wraps around its eastern and southern sides. Within the Master Bedroom, you will find the perfect sleeping, reading, or relaxing hideaway in the Loft (15'x15'). Pads and beds make it great for midday snoozers. Just ask a ladder for assistance.
For the quietest night's sleep, choose the Lower Bedroom (12'x16'), just off from the eastern side of the bathroom, or down from the Master Bedroom. This room nestles into the earth, yet allows the sun to peek in through an upper window for a soft "Good-Morning".
Whichever room you use or choose, we're confident Otter Haven will host with comfort and charm, offering many an opportunity for playful exploration, or simple rest. Feel free to call for further details or interests, and we'll do our best to speak with you in person when you make an inquiry.
