Beautiful, romantic, peaceful, ecstatically reviewed, authentically-restored house and sunny roof terrace in the heart of a medieval village with nature all around; fresh boulangerie delivered daily, swimming, castles, markets, mountains, fine dining, countryside exploring and a plethora of local wine... it's the perfect place to experience southern France at its best.

La Belle Ancienne is far from a conventional hotel; most suited to those who seek a unique dwelling with character and original charm intact.

The house is nestled in the quaint hamlet of Assignan (936 AD), built on a hill near St Chinian, in the heart of a region steeped in history, as well as wine: the Languedoc. It can comfortably accommodate two to four adults, on three floors of rustic French decor, with the addition of a spacious roof terrace overlooking the vineyards and rolling hills beyond. Exposed stonework, large wooden beams, a classic winding staircase from cellar to terrace, fireplace, marble sink and original tiles preserve the antiquity and flavor of its medieval attributes.

The kitchen has been opened up with more counter space added, along with several new appliances. A large pyramid wood stove has been installed in the fireplace to provide a cozy atmosphere on chilly nights. The terrace has also been refurbished and bedrooms updated. The bath was recently completely remodeled - a must see!

All rates include utilities (electricity, wood and internet) except winter months, when electricity and wood is charged upon usage.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Christine (the owner) a message.

If Christine (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
