L'Hirondelle is a beautifully converted , 19th century barn creating a 4-bedroom, self-contained holiday home - sleeps 8 plus a baby in two double (king size) and two twin bedrooms. A cot is available for one of the double rooms. With all bedrooms en suite, this is excellent accommodation for groups of friends or families.

Located in the heart of 'Le Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin', L'Hirondelle is ideally situated to explore the beautiful and varied attractions of the Haute-Vienne, Dordogne and Charente departments. Activities include walking, cycling, bird watching, golf, horse riding, or fishing, relaxing, boating and swimming at the many nearby lakes. St Mathieu Lake is just 5 kms away. Rochechouart with its medieval chateau and good selection of restaurants is a 20 minute drive.
The gîte is only 2 kms from the pretty village of St Mathieu with a petrol station, bank, post office, 2 bakers, bar/restaurant, cafe, newsagent and a well stocked supermarket. During peak summer months, the village hosts lively night markets with BBQ and live music and there is an excellent snack bar/restaurant adjacent to the beach at the St Mathieu Lake.
Table d'Hotes dinners can be booked at €25 per person inclusive of wine. Catered House Parties (similar to staying in a ski chalet) are also available, providing breakfast and four course dinner with wine & coffee - 30€ per person. L'Hirondelle features a large open plan living and dining area with exposed beams and a well-appointed kitchen looking out over the garden, woods and fields. There is also a ground floor cloakroom with toilet and washbasin. A galleried staircase leads to the first floor where four comfortably furnished bedrooms are situated, all with en-suite facilities. There are two double rooms (king size beds) and two twin bedrooms. A cot is also available and can be comfortably accommodated in one of the double rooms plus there are 2 high-chairs. All bedrooms have a wardrobe, bedside cabinets and full length wall mirror. There is a hairdryer and free standing fans. Towels and bed-linen are included with beds made ready for your arrival. Bed linen is changed weekly. Beach towels are available if required. A washing machine is available in the utility room and there is a washing line in the garden. The private garden has sun loungers and a terrace with BBQ plus table and chairs for outside dining. The property benefits from full central heating for the cooler months with thermostatic controls on all the bedroom radiators. For the comfort of all, L'Hirondelle operates a no smoking policy within the Gîte. Your hosts live in the same hamlet and on hand if needed to offer advice or help with planning each day to make the most of your precious holiday. The terrace is accessed directly from the French doors leading from the dining area of the gite. Steps down from the terrace lead to the garden that is partly laid to grass and partly shingle. On the terrace, there is a large wooden table & 8 chairs for outside dining. The lawn area has sun loungers. There is a charcoal BBQ. Offering peace and tranquility in a small hamlet overlooking a wooded river valley and farmland. Ideal for getting away from it all yet only minutes from the village amenities of St Mathieu. Enjoy birdwatching, BBQs on the terrace and on clear nights experience the wonder of the night sky. Take rural walks or cycle to explore the surrounding countryside. The St Mathieu Lake (5kms away) offers fishing, a beach with swimming area, crazy golf, children's play ground and canoe and pedalo hire during the peak summner. It's a wonderful place for a picnic, with plenty of shade under the trees surrounding the lake. For golfers, there are half a dozen different golf courses within an hours drive. Golf de La Preze is the nearest, just a 25 minutes drive. The busy, weekly street market at Piegut is just 20 minutes away. Held on a Wednesday morning, it's a firm favourite with locals and holiday makers alike. Buy ingredients for your picnic and take it to the St Estephe lake for a lazy afternoon by the beach. The pretty town of Rochechouart (20 mins drive) has a selection of restaurants for every taste.
