Description from owner
Laurel Cottage is a charming 300 year old thatched cottage in the heart of the peaceful village of Sutton Poyntz on the outskirts of the seaside resort town of Weymouth.
The interior has been refurbished to an exceptionally high standard combining a modern kitchen and bathrooms with the period character of the cottage. It has 4 bedrooms: 2 doubles (1 en-suite) and 2 twins. There is a large living room and separate dining room. Bed linen and towels are included.
The large secluded garden surrounds the property on 3 sides. The two seating areas are ideally placed to catch the sunshine all day from breakfast to dinner.
There is parking for 1 car on the drive (please be aware this is steep and quite narrow) however there is unrestricted parking on Plaisters Lane.
Laurel Cottage is located in the heart of the picturesque village of Sutton Poyntz. Set at the foot of the chalk downs, famous for the dominant White Horse carving, the village has a lengthy and intriguing history, dating back over 1000 years to 891 AD.
The village boasts an idyllic setting with a stunning rural backdrop. The much photographed village mill pond serves as the 'heart' of the village, adjacent to which is the popular inn, The Springhead. There is also a regular bus service connecting to Weymouth and the suburb of Preston is only a short distance away.
Venturing into the seaside town of Weymouth is highly recommended. Famed for its 3 mile stretch of golden sands which have been acknowledged in 2017 by TripAdvisor as the best beach in the UK - reason enough to pay a visit, notwithstanding the bustling high street with a range of independent and high street retailers and the historic Harbour side with its array of public houses and bistros.

- Very Good
Just returned from our holiday spent in Laurel Cottage and what a wonderful time we all had, despite the generally poor weather. From the initial wow from our 3 year old granddaughter when we first opened the door to her sigh of disappointment when we turned to leave, it was everything we could have hoped for. Beautiful outside it was much bigger than we expected inside too but superbly equipped with everything you could need. The place was immaculate from the crisp white sheets and bedding to the property itself. Loads of toys, games and CDs to use if the weather is poor to beautiful spacious gardens when it is, it was a perfect property and surely couldn’t disappoint anybody. Only a few minutes from central Weymouth and it’s beaches, of which the central beach is best for sand, the cottage is perfectly situated for leisure and any shopping needed. We did do Craig’s Farm and the cakes and ice cream were delicious. Due to the weather we didn’t barbecue but there is a nice area to do so. All in all both the cottage and location make for a thoroughly relaxing break and with everything you could want and need included you just need the weather for a truly lovely break.
Response from the owner Really glad you enjoyed your week. Thanks for your lovely review. Andrew
“A beautiful cottage in a lovely village”
Laurel cottage stands in a lovely garden in the heart of Sutton Poyntz. The cottage has a traditional feel, but has been carefully up-dated with all modern conveniences. We stayed with our grown-up children and grandchildren (7 of us in all) and it was the perfect setting for a family holiday. It's near to Weymouth with its sandy beach and attractions, but also in the quiet heart of the village from which you can do some lovely walks. The cottage is light and airy in a secluded garden with lovely views from all its windows.
An amazing cottage equipped with everything and more you could need. It is especially great the toys and equipment provided for children. Great location in delightful village but so close to Weymouth. Bus service at the door if you prefer not to drive. Would highly recommend this gorgeous cottage.
“Laurels for Laurel Cottage”
We stayed at Laurel Cottage with our son, daughter in law and two young grandchildren last week. Laurel Cottage lived up to all our expectations - a delightful property in a very pretty village setting. The house has good facilities, comprehensive equipment, and is very suitable for young children, with toys and baby equipment in place. The garden is a relaxing environment with BBQ and seating. Sutton Poyntz has a local pub ,The Springhead , which serves good food and has quality play facilities outside. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.......
“Lovely cottage in beautiful village”
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Laurel Cottage, plenty of room for 7 of us (5 adults and 2 children). Good pub in the village, another 2 pubs and fish & chips within walking distance, handy for Weymouth (a bus goes from the village once an hour). Nice walks from the cottage.
