Manyika house is a beautiful colonial farm house set amidst it's own coffee plantation, just 45km from Nairobi. Built in the 1930’s in the traditional English style, this historic homestead was once home to the pioneering aviator and dear friend of Karen Blixen; Beryl Markham. Soak up the history, enjoy your view of Mt. Kenya from the veranda and walk in the mature expansive garden (5 acres) and coffee fields of this beautiful country retreat.

This very spacious and genuine old-style farm house has four bedrooms that share two bathrooms and a one bedroom guest cottage with ensuite bathroom.The large and open living room has several tastefully furnished sitting areas, a high ceiling with original carved beams and a cozy fire place. The dining room with its antique interior invites to a delicious dinner prepared by the chef. The kitchen is fully equipped and you can drink the fresh borehole water straight from the tap!

Manyika also offers a small playground for kids with a trampoline, slides, swings, sandbox and a football pitch. Kids also love our rabbits, dogs, turtles and sheep and are welcome to go out in the morning to collect the fresh eggs together with John, our caretaker.

Guest sometimes ask us what you can 'do' at Manyika house and we always answer that at Manyika you just want to 'be'. Relax, rejuvenate, enjoy all the flowers and trees while wandering in the garden, read a book on the veranda, play, eat and come to rest. What else would you want?

However, if you do like to move around a bit, John, our gardener gladly takes you on a 1-1.5 hour walk on the coffee plantation. John will tell you about the plants, trees and surroundings while you can enjoy the beautiful and stunning views on the surrounding landscape and, on clear days, mount Kenya! We also have a few mountain bikes available that you are free to use and coffee tours to the nearby coffee factory can be arranged on request. If you stay longer, you are welcome to read books from our big library, including books of and about Beryl Markham Manyika's former, famous owner!

On less than 2 km from the house you'll find the newly developed golf estate Thika Greens where you can book a round in the morning or afternoon and come back to Manyika afterwards for a nice lunch or dinner prepared by our chef Joel.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Eva (the owner) a message.

If Eva (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
