Description

NO BOOKING FEE The Mistal is a recently completed two bedroom barn conversion situated in beautiful countryside overlooking the Hambleton Hills and approximately 4 miles from the historic market town of Thirsk ( the home of James Herriot and the Yorkshire Vet) and with easy access to the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

The luxury accommodation comprises: on the ground floor an open plan living/dining/kitchen with underfloor heating and a feature wood burning stove. The lounge has a Smart TV and there is good wi fi connection throughout the property. There is also a downstairs cloakroom/WC. The kitchen is fully fitted with granite worktops, built in oven, microwave, induction hob, fridge, freezer, nespresso machine and dishwasher. There is a full size double sofa bed which can provide additional/alternative sleeping accommodation for up to two extra persons (additional charge of £25 per person, per night, please enquire).

On the first floor there are two bedrooms with superking or king sized zip and link beds which can be split into singles if required. Each bedroom has a TV and an en suite shower room. The bedrooms are connected by a galleried walkway overlooking the vaulted living area.

Outside there is a private south facing patio with seating and a BBQ.

There is a separate guest laundry with washing machine and tumble drier which guests are welcome to use.

On site there is a newly re-surfaced tennis court available for use by guests free of charge as well as a large stable block and ménage ( livery and grazing is available for visitor's own horses - extra charge, please enquire with the owners). There is also a play area for children with swings, slide, trampoline and see-saw and a well stocked coarse fishing lake which guests are welcome to use, again free of charge. Cyclists are particularly welcome and we can provide secure indoor storage as well as washing facilities for bikes.

There is a very popular local pub serving excellent home cooked food within easy walking distance ( food served Wednesday to Sunday inclusive, booking well in advance necessary). The property is on a national cycling route and there are numerous footpaths and bridle ways in the area making it an ideal location for cycling, walking and riding. The market towns of Thirsk and Northallerton with their shops, cafes and restaurants are within easy reach and the property's central position makes it very convenient for visiting the attractions of the Moors and the Dales. York and Harrogate are just a 30-40 minute drive away.

“Special place, don't hesitate book today”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2018

From the moment I booked online the communication from Karen was excellent. Directions prior to arrival were excellent, recommendations for eating out were first class especially The Dog & Gun, service her from Shelly was superb and the food was home made and good quality. Upon arrival we were met by Lucy with our key, I have been to many self catering places The Mistal is the best one I've ever been to, spotlessly clean which is hard to achieve when it's a dog friendly house. The pictures don't do this place justice as the finish that has been achieved is outstanding. Every detail has been thought of, well equipped and a clever use of space. Under floor heating was plenty for the time of year so we didn't use the wood burner. The welcome hamper was comprehensive and great quality, including several Yorkshire items and homemade jam. The grounds and outdoor space were immaculately presented, we used the tennis court with the equipment provided but didn't have time to fish. Plenty of beautiful walks, the house and the grounds were very dog friendly. We will be returning for another visit in the future as this place was beyond words.

“Relaxing peaceful holiday, ideally situated for the North Yorkshire moors and Dales”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2018

Our five day break started with a lovely welcome from Karen, Jeff, and Tangles the dog. Karen showed us round The Mistal, originally the cow shed to the farm which has been developed into a 5 star living space. No expense has been spared, with excellent fixtures and fittings. A lovely welcome basket, filled with lots of goodies, including wine, beer, biscuits, and even some of Karen's home made jam. Karen and Jeff make you really feel at home, and Tangles makes herself at home, as on one evening we left the front door open and she joined us for tea. Cracking dog. We can't recommend The Mistal more, and to prove it we already have booked again in September 2018.

“The Mistal - What a wonderful place to stay”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2018

My wife and I, together with her elderly Uncle and Aunt, had the very great pleasure of staying at The Mistal from 26th May to 2nd June 2018. On our arrival we were greeted by Karen and Jeff, the owners, who showed us around the property. It was the first time we had stayed here and certainly exceeded our expectations. It was spotlessly clean, very well decorated and furnished, with the lovely added touch of a well stocked hamper to help us settle in. One of the reasons that we chose this location was that we felt it would be ideal for travelling both through the Yorkshire Moors and the Dales and we couldn't have chosen a better spot. Karen and Jeff were so friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. What a lovely couple they are. The peace and quiet of the location was also appreciated and if you like to wake up to the sound of birds singing in the morning rather than the cough and splutter of car engines, then this really has to be the place for you. Jeff is currently in the process of renovating additional areas of the farm as holiday lettings and his attention to detail is second to none. If you are looking for a peaceful break in a quiet location and in a holiday property that is extremely well maintained and cared for with the added benefit of being very convenient for travelling through the Yorkshire Moors and Dales then this is the place for you. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and encourage anyone to give it a try. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

“A warm welcome awaits at this fabulous property in a great location”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2018

Along with my daughters and grandson I've just returned from a wonderful 4 night break in North Yorkshire staying in Karen and Jeff's fabulous barn conversion. This stunning property on a quiet lane in beautiful countryside offers every comfort you could possibly need and more. It's furnished very tastefully, has a lovely well equipped kitchen, great ensuite bathrooms and a cosy log fire. My seven year old grandson had lots to interest him with horses, tennis court and play equipment just outside the door. The highlight for him was being shown how to fish in the well stocked lake. Thank you Jeff. The location is brilliant for the North Yorks Moors or the Dales and despite the rainy weather we found lots to do for all the family. We can highly recommend the local pub, the Dog & Gun. Many thanks Karen and Jeff for all those extra touches including the fabulous welcome hamper. We look forward to our next visit.

“Stunning barn in beautiful location.”

We are a family of 4. This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom barn was wonderful accommodation for our half term break. Everything was squeaky clean when we arrived, and we received a lovely starter hamper to get us going. Karen and Jeff are great hosts, very good communications. The barn is on a working equine farm, so your children will be welcomed to visit the horses. One look on google will confirm that this property is in a fantastic location for the Yorkshire Dales, York and many other attractive market towns. In summary, this is a great holiday home.

“Outstanding Property & Wonderful Host”

2nd stay at this location. The Granary and this visit The Mistral. Property is outstanding and finished to high specification, home from home. If you are a cyclist this is a perfect location and there is secure bike storage also hose pipe for cleaning bikes. Great for both road and mountain bikes. The perfect hosts Karen & Jeff, nothing is to much trouble to ensure our stay was the best. Last but not least the 3rd member host Tangles the dog, she has the perfect temperament when greeting guests. We will be back again soon.

“Incredible property with stunning views in a tranquil rural setting”

Reviewed 25 Sep 2017

My wife & I stayed at The Mistal for five nights. This is 5 star accommodation on a 12 acre farm in a beautiful rural setting and even has a lake with over 6000 fish! Very comfortable beds, private secure parking 5 feet from the entrance to the cottage and two sets of outside tables and chairs to catch the sun where you can just relax. Tennis court also just outside before the stables. Ideally located just outside the village of Knayton which is approx a 10 min drive from the charming market town of Thirsk (Tesco open until midnight, we would recommend the Thai (Racha) and Indian (Henna) restaurants if you like spicy food) and 30 mins from York. Ideal location to tour the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks and surrounding areas. This is one of four cottages (Jeff is still working on the last two) that has all the mods cons from underfloor heating to soft closing drawers in the kitchen and the latest bathroom fixtures. The attention to detail really shows and we had a very nice welcome pack on arrival. This coupled with the help, advice and friendliness from Karen & Jeff (and Tangles the friendly resident dog!) who go out of their way to make sure your stay is a comfortable and memorable one. Jeff gave us a tour of his retirement project which is daunting for most people as he is a perfectionist. We did a similar project, albeit smaller, in Mexico where we now live so know the challenges they must have faced. What we wished that could have been better: Absolutely nothing. Our regret: Not having booked a longer stay at this beautiful property. Our advice: Book this property, you will not regret your decision. Thank you Karen & Jeff for sharing your beautiful property with us and the conversation & laughs we shared on our last night at The Carpenters Arms! We hope to be back some day when we are in this part of the world to see your Alpacas!
