Description from owner
NO BOOKING FEE The Mistal is a recently completed two bedroom barn conversion situated in beautiful countryside overlooking the Hambleton Hills and approximately 4 miles from the historic market town of Thirsk ( the home of James Herriot and the Yorkshire Vet) and with easy access to the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks.
The luxury accommodation comprises: on the ground floor an open plan living/dining/kitchen with underfloor heating and a feature wood burning stove. The lounge has a Smart TV and DVD and there is good wi fi connection throughout the property. There is also a downstairs cloakroom/WC. The kitchen is fully fitted with granite worktops, built in oven, microwave, induction hob, fridge, freezer, nespresso machine and dishwasher. There is a full size double sofa bed which can provide additional/alternative sleeping accommodation for up to two extra persons (additional charge of £25 per person, per night, please enquire).
On the first floor there are two bedrooms with superking or king sized zip and link beds which can be split into singles if required. Each bedroom has a TV and an en suite shower room. The bedrooms are connected by a galleried walkway overlooking the vaulted living area.
Outside there is a private south facing patio with seating and a BBQ.
There is a separate guest laundry with washing machine and tumble drier which guests are welcome to use.
On site there is a newly re-surfaced tennis court available for use by guests free of charge as well as a large stable block and ménage ( livery and grazing is available for visitor's own horses - extra charge, please enquire with the owners). There is also a play area for children with swings, slide, trampoline and see-saw and a well stocked coarse fishing lake which guests are welcome to use, again free of charge. Cyclists are particularly welcome and we can provide secure indoor storage as well as washing facilities for bikes.
There is a very popular local pub serving excellent home cooked food within easy walking distance ( food served Wednesday to Sunday inclusive, booking well in advance necessary). The property is on a national cycling route and there are numerous footpaths and bridle ways in the area making it an ideal location for cycling, walking and riding. The market towns of Thirsk and Northallerton with their shops, cafes and restaurants are within easy reach and the property's central position makes it very convenient for visiting the attractions of the Moors and the Dales. York and Harrogate are just a 30-40 minute drive away.

“Spacious, stylish and comfortable, a great place to stay and explore the Yorkshire Moors.”
Karen greeted us when we arrived and made sure that we had everything we needed for our stay. The very generous welcome hamper was a lovely surprise. The Mistal is better even than the pictures, there's plenty of space and it's very well equipped for self catering and includes many thoughtful touches. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a holiday in comfort and very stylish surroundings. It's a great place to relax in and as a base to explore the beautiful Yorkshire Moors. We look forward to staying there again.
Jeff and Karen are fantastic hosts... From the welcome pack with the homemade jam and other various goodies to the loan of personal fishing equipment Jeff and Karen couldn’t have been more hospitable. Beautiful location, Northallerton in one direction and Thirsk the other way. The Mistal has been lovingly and respectfully decorated. Everything you could want and more. Felt like we were staying with friends or family. Tangles the dog is just as friendly as Jeff and Karen too. We will be returning, definitely... if we’re allowed! Thank you for everything xx
“First visit, won’t be the last!”

“A Bolthole for life”
My sister and I had the most wonderful few days staying at the Mistal. Our welcome from Karen and Geoff was so warm, and an unexpected welcome hamper added to our enjoyment. The Mistal has been so lovingly restored and the high standard in every area is a joy to behold. It totally reflects the owners love and commitment of their properties. We should have stayed much longer, but we know we will be back, and next time for much longer. This is truly going to be somewhere we know we will return to again and again.

“Mistal Cottage - Short Week Break.”
Another visit to stay with Karen and Jeff Milton at Old Low Moor Farm in the village of Knayton. We both very much enjoyed our stay with you, and had a nice relaxing break in the Mistal Cottage. It’s always good to see the progress you’ve made, and how many countless hours of work you both have put into making these cottages just so warm, cosy and homely. It was nice to see you both again, and meet up with your family. I suppose one day Jeff, you’ll either end up in the greenhouse or sat perched on a seat fishing all day, or maybe there’s another project bubbling away in the pan?. Yep, there’s something brewing. We send you both are best regards, and thank you for once again welcoming us to your home and making us so welcome.
