About This Listing
A colourful home in central Trincomalee.
The Space
This newly built home is a rare find in Trinco town. With three rooms, a living room, a bathroom and a kitchen it can host up to 6 people. A very nice and colourful place, inside and out.
Interaction with Guests
Kumar (a.k.a. Wasanthakumar, but that’s a bit too long for most), is a local schoolteacher from Trinco town. He’s built this home to rent out to guests and make extra income, while he and his wife and kids live in another home nearby.
The Neighborhood
Of all that Sri Lanka has to offer, Trinco might be our favorite Neverbeen location. It's not that the beaches are perfect, the nature is the wildest or the culture is the most abundant, but it's the right mix and it really feels like something is about to happen there. Too early for mass tourism (which will surely come) Trinco hosts the more adventurous type of traveller. Real backpackers come by bus or train, but seriously, save yourself some trouble by taking the $35 flight from Colombo - Ratmalana (Helitours) and treat yourself to one of the nicest coastal landings you'll see, straight across the unique Trinco harbour. Once there, do all the sunbathing, temple-visiting and island hopping you need to do, but don't forget to visit the fish and vegetable markets downtown and the beach temple in this little gem of a town called Salli, just above Uppuveli beach. Once there, a lovely toothless bloke called Kutien (Ku-Tee-Ann) or any of his more 'toothful' colleagues would be happy to take you on a boat trip all the way to the bottom of Swami Rock.
Kumar's is located in a very central yet quiet part of Trinco town. Close to the beach, markets and the Swami Rock.
