Location:
Located 45km south of Rethymno and 10km southeast of the village Akoumia, at the foot of the mountain Sideronas is the ideal region of Triopetra. Triopetra beachfront is called Akoumiana and was in the past the winter shelter of Akoumia village.
Triopetra consists of two beaches separated by a small area. At the edge of the peninsula, in the sea, three majestic rocks rise. Triopetra which means three rocks took its name from this wonderful site. The first beach known as Small Triopetra (or Koumado), is a sandy and rocky Bay, south of the three rocks. In its southern end flows the river Akoumianos. The beach is partly organized with umbrellas and sunbeds while you can find restaurants and small taverns. The area also hosts a small harbor, in the southeast part of the beach, called Stomio (mouth) and named after the "mouth" of the river reaching the sea. 1km northeast of this beach, you can visit the amazing chapel of Prophet Elias, on a high hill, overlooking Akoumiani Gialia.
