From the owner

Shorewinds is a delightful beach house on the Lake Shore of Lake Michigan. The property site is unique. It has its own garden gate which leads one down the beach path to the beach. There are no roads to cross between the home and beach. You are approximately 150 paces to the beach steps. It is an ideal location for the guest who wants to be next to the beach while having the luxury of going back and forth to the home for lunch, refreshments or bathroom needs.

The Space

Shorewinds is a second home, therefore, it has many amenities that normal rentals would not have. The guests experience the beachfront as my family and friends do. I leave plenty of pots, pans, dishes, serving items, 2 grills ( gas/ weber), beach toys, beach chairs, an umbrella, outdoor seating. Extra towels and linen for your use. A washer and dryer and most amenities of home. Family games and books are left for your pleasure.

Guest Access

My guests get to use the total 1400 square foot interior which includes the great room, the kitchen, 2 bathrooms 2 bedrooms, the laundry center, and the exterior property and private driveway. ( The gardens, the driveway, the fire pit, the outdoor seating area, and the private gate access to the beach.) The dedicated parking is very much a plus along the water front as there is" No Parking" on Lake Shore Rd. Shorewinds can hold up to 3 family cars.

Interaction with Guests

Michigan lodging tax is .06%. It is a mandatory fee that goes to the State of Michigan. It is required for your lodging and housing costs.

We have strict cancellation guidelines.

The Neighborhood

A simple, beach town community. We have a local bakery, a local grocery store, a local post office. Several local restaurants of which some of 5 stars. We can walk to most of our favorite eating stops.

Biking and touring down Lake Shore road is a daily event. Morning coffee with bird watching sets the mood for the day.

Next, off to the beach for a day of play and listening to the water. Upon returning to the beach house enjoy a hot beach shower under the skies.

Getting Around

A car is the best way to get to Union Pier, however, there is a daily train that comes from Chicago to New Buffalo. ( Am Trak as well as the South Shore Train.)

Once at Shorewinds, walking and biking are the preferred means of transportation.

Other Things to Note

Shorewinds is a four-season home recently remodeled with central H.V.A.C.

Upgrades were made in appliances and bathrooms from the old farmhouse/cottage style living.

Our maid service fees vary depending on whether you are a short weekend stay or a weekly rental.

We request that summer rentals be paid in full 60 days prior to arrival.

We are strict about cancellations. If there is a possibility of a cancellation of your vacation during the high season, we suggest taking trip insurance of your choice to cover your vacation package. See various trip insurance packages online.

House Rules

We require our guests to be 25 years of age or greater.

We have, as with any home, normal housekeeping rules, caretaking and expectations of our guests while at Shorewinds. These house rules are sent with your Guest packet once your reservation has been 100% secured.

We ask you to respect the home and treat it as you would treat your own home.

We are an allergy-free/pet-free zone. NO PETS ALLOWED.

Thank you for your 5 star review. We work very hard at keeping the cottage charming. We think we have the best little piece of property as our garden gate opens up to the beach path. Once outside of the garden gate, you have views of the water. It is a short 150 paces to the landing and the beach steps. It makes it so very easy to walk back and forth to the house for potty breaks or refreshments. We are so fortunate to be on Lake Shore Rd and on the Shore side of the road. Our clients love the ease and access to the water. No lugging of beach carts and beach stuff down to the water with a long walk back to your rental. The Beauty of The Shorewinds is its location and old cottage charm. September is a fabulous time of year to stay. The days are bright, blue, less humidity and bugs and the evenings are crisp. The water in September is at its warmest as it has had June, July and August to build up its warmth. Come back again soon! Joan Arquilla , owner

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Joan (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
