The tale of Staparski Sorrento

Hello there, I will be your guide through the Djetinja river canyon, on the old, rocky road that used to be a railroad connecting Uzice and Sarajevo. All the way to “Staparski Sorrento”, place of untouched nature and unique scenery.

While the winding road goes, swirls and hides behind the bushes, trees and forest flowers, mountain river murmurs, occasionally ferociously attacking ancient rocks, swirls and gorges the riverbed. It hurries, like it is aware of its importance for humans survival and salvation. Here, at least temporarily, you can forget problems and immerse into sounds of nature, birdsong and play of sunlight through the spiderwebs or benevolent waves of river rapids.

After ten kilometers of curiosity and forgotten, small surprises that being in nature can offer, we reach a bridge made of fallen trees, finally joining two riverbanks that call travelers to step into a new, poets dream.

Suddenly, through the forest, wooden house roofs appear along with a magnificent flowery park and soft, fresh cut lawn. Centerpiece is a large open summer house, with quite comfortable, handmade wooden benches and chairs. Everything natural and crafted by hand. Wood, rock, bricks. Birch trunks, hand carved benches, covered porch of two person house. Everything smells of cypress and wood resin. Just next to it sits a rock built open kitchen with barbecue, refrigerator and stove . Sink is there for washing dishes and hands, opposite of a large bar with three tree stomps used as barstools. You can't fail to notice a rock well with cold, fresh water along with another two person house. A big wooden table, deep in shade, made of tree trunks cut in half can accommodate ten people for lunch or a conversation. Sometimes even some singing, if the mood is good.

Eagles, hawks and other birds of prey can be heard high over the valley surrounded with thick forest. Herons, storks and other rare birds keep to the river and canyon to keep out of the reach of lords of the heights. If you are lucky you can come across other wildlife like ducks, rabbits, snakes, roe deers...

Clear waters of mountain river are swarming with trout, chub, gudgeon and other species of fish. Catch and release fishing is welcome. You can also enjoy forest exploring, hiking, mountain biking. Many guests like picking herbs for herbal teas.

This is a perfect place for true wild nature lovers.

Be a part of this forgotten serenity that is offered at “Staparski sorrento” and remind yourselves of times when the nature was respected. Times when we were free of smog, concrete or asphalt, times of clean air. Cheers.
