From the owner

Vallorcine is the "hidden gem" of the Chamonix area. Unlike Chamonix, it is not a substantial tourist town. It is a mountain village in its own valley where the cow bells can still be heard in the summer. However, it benefits from a modern high-speed ski lift into the Le Tour/La Balme ski area which also runs in the summer for the benefit of walkers and mountain bikers. That lift is less than 5 minutes' walk from Maison du Torrent (even in ski boots!).

Vallorcine is a year-round destination. Chamonix is well known for its skiing, but it is also a stunning place in the summer for walking, climbing, swimming, mountain biking and so on.

Vallorcine is also within easy reach of the other Chamonix ski areas on the regular, efficient and picturesque train service, which stops at Argentiere, Les Praz and Chamonix itself for the Grands Montets, Flegere and Brevent respectively - along with the bright lights of Chamonix itself. For those with young families, the Vallorcine valley also contains beginners skiing behind the Hotel du Buet in the Poya ski area.

There are a number of great places to eat in the Vallorcine valley including Le Cafe Comptoir, la Ferme des Trois Ours, the Hotel Le Buet, the Gite Bellevue and the Arret Bougnete. There is also a super village shop 200 metres from the house from which you can buy your freshly baked croissants every day.

The Maison Le Torrent is more of a stone village house than a classic wooden chalet. It has a playroom (with lots of toys and games, a baby-foot table and English TV), downstairs loo and ski-room on the ground floor, an open-plan kitchen, dining room and sitting room with a very cosy wood burning stove on the first floor, two double/twin bedrooms, a bathroom and shower room on the second floor, and a further two double bedrooms, a bathroom and a children's room (which currently contains one single bed and one child's bed) on the top floor. So to say that it can accommodate 9-10 comfortably is about right. We also have wifi for those who can't tear themselves away from work.

We have two parking spaces across the road from the house and an informal garden which is great for building snowmen in during the winter and having barbecues and a paddling pool in during the summer

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send James (the owner) a message.

If James (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
