This charming two bedroom apartment, which sleeps five, is on the first floor of Casa de Kathy. Casa de Kathy is located in Esperanza, the PREMIER tourist area on the south coast of Vieques. We are a 5-7 minute walk to the town beach and a 15 minute to walk to Sun Bay. We are a fifteen minute ride to Playa Caracas (Red Beach) in the Wildlife Refuge. On the boardwalk ("malecon"), only two blocks away from the apartment, you will find reefs for snorkeling, restaurants, shops, and BioBay tours. One block away there is a convenience store and a bakery.
The owner, Kathy, lives on the second floor and is available to orient you to the beaches and advise you on your tour to the world's best bioluminescent bay! Since 2003, Casa de Kathy has been rated EXCELLENT on Tripadvisor. Great value for families…children welcome. Kathy promotes sustainable, green business practices.

BEACHES, BIOBAY AND OTHER ATTRACTIONS:
Beaches Near By:
Good Beaches within walking distance from Casa de Kathy
• Esperanza Beach (7 minutes walking).
• Sun Bay, Media Luna, Navio (between 20 to 60 minutes walking)
• Coco Beach (7 minutes)
Good Snorkeling within walking distance
• Under the long pier in Esperanza
• Cayo Afuera (Outside Key), the island in front of the restaurants, is the best close-by snorkeling. Rent a kayak or borrow my dive ring to avoid being hit by a boat.
• Shore in front of the Malecon (get in at Bananas and swim west towards Trade Winds).
• Coco Beach is west of the Malecon and has good snorkeling. Black Sand Beach – One hour to walk there and come back leisurely.
Beaches in the eastern Wildlife Refuge (formerly the U.S. Navy base):
All the refuge beaches have pretty white sand and are good swimming and snorkeling.
• Playa Caracas (renamed Red Beach by the Navy). Snorkel on the east side (left).
• Playa La Chiva (Blue Beach). snorkel on the east side of the big island in the bay and along shore on the sandy point in front of the island.
• Playa La Plata (Silver Beach).
You need a car or bike to get to these beaches. Taxis to Red Beach: $15 for two people each way, $20 for four. Taxis to Blue Beach: $45 up to three people.
North & West Coast Beaches - Playa Gallito (just before the airport), the beach on the east side of the Mosquito Pier and the end of the pier, and Playa Arenas (Green Beach) are popular for swimming and snorkeling.
Bio Bay Tours / Snorkeling Trips - One of Vieques’ most famous and enjoyable attractions is the “Bio-Bay”. It is best experienced with little or no moon.
• Abe's Bio Bay & Snorkeling
• JAK Water Sports (clear bottom kayaks)
• Melaya's Bio Bay Tours
• Taino Bio Bay Tours
• Bieke Eco-Tours
• Fun Brothers
• Island Adventures (electric & paddle boat)
Horseback Riding:
Esperanza Riding Company – trails on the coast and behind Esperanza
Taxi Horses - trails along beaches and hills on the north coast near the airport
Sea Gate Hotel - trails outside of Isabel II, near ferry dock
Other Attractions - I recommend a trip to the Conde Mirasol Fort & Museum and the Punta Mula Lighthouse in Isabel II. It is also worth a trip to the Puerto Ferro archaeological site north of the entrance to Sun Bay, about a quarter of a mile on the left. In the west, visit the 375 year old ceiba tree, Mosquito pier, the ecumenical chapel & Laguna Kiani.
SHOPPING AND OTHER STUFF:
Stores - El Dulce Panaderia (bakery) and Colmado Lydia (variety store) -one block away. La Tienda Verde (Green Store) at the entrance of Esperanza is a bigger variety store.
Spanish Language - If you are a native English-speaker and also know some Spanish, be brave and USE IT. Although many people in Vieques understand English, they will appreciate you trying to speak their primary language.
ATM’s – There are two ATM’s in the banks in Isabel II. And a few private ones in Esperanza.
Unlimited Wi-Fi is available.
Recycling We recycle aluminum, plastic, cardboard and paper.
