It is highly recommended for its excellent location, open aspect and magnificent sea views towards Coquet Island and Warkworth Castle. Well insulated, warm and cosy with oil-fired central heating the Shieling is an ideal base for both couples and families, providing a cheerful retreat for a stress-free, relaxing break in winter or summer. This superb, single storey property provides high standard accommodation with a feature floor to roof window and vaulted ceiling. It is finished to a superior standard with quality furnishings and fittings, well equipped and with great attention to detail. It has a large lawn and gravel garden with garden furniture. The living area opens to an attractive conservatory with views towards the sea. The Shieling sleeps six in three comfortable, harmonious bedrooms, one en-suite and two with sea views. The property is centrally located for touring the inland areas of Northumberland and the Heritage coast. The Farne Islands with its famous National Trust seabird colony is a short sail from Seahouses. Beautiful Bamburgh is frequently rated as one of the top ten beaches in the U.K. A mere two miles away is award winning picturesque Warkworth village with its golf course, restaurants, inns, small shops, river, beach and ancient castle. Boat trips to the RSPB reserve on Coquet Island leave from Amble, three miles away. Historic Alnwick with its spectacular garden and castle, recently showcased in Harry Potter films, is within easy reach (five miles). The bus to Alnwick passes the entrance to the grounds. Historic sites galore and contrasting coast and country offer a holiday full of variety in this charming family run cottage. Cleanliness, standards and attention to detail are very important to us and are personally supervised by the owner Carole Ann. We have been providing accommodation for 9 years and take pride in the cottage. We love to share our knowledge of the area and places to visit Dark Sky Friendly assessment from Northumberland Tourism.

“Perfect!”

Reviewed 28 Oct 2018

Carole Ann's home was a home from home for me and my family. The location was quiet and peaceful, ideal after a day of coastal walking and sight seeing. Every where we visited was just a short drive away. Carole Ann provided an abundance of information of places to visit so no need for our research before we arrived in Northumberland! I would definitely recommend to anyone I know visiting the area.

Response from the owner So pleased to hear that you and your family enjoyed your week in the Shieling. I hope you all returned home rested and refreshed. I would be very pleased to welcome you back anytime. Thank you Rachel.

“Lovely short break.”

Response from the owner So pleased to hear you enjoyed your break. Welcome back any time.

“A spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped holiday home”

Reviewed 30 Sep 2018

We were delighted with the cottage, plenty of space for parking and views to the sea beyond. A special thanks to Carole Anne who had added nice touches - a welcome tea tray, sweets and flowers plus many thoughtful pieces of information for her visitors and the property was spotlessly clean. A short drive away is Warkworth which is quite a special place, well kept and situated within easy reach of many of the attractive small towns and attractions in Northumberland - we visited as many as we could in the week! Hope to come back again. Sarah

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind review S. I would love to have you back to stay. You are very welcome anytime. Carole Ann.

“Family break”

Reviewed 28 Feb 2018

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The house was lovely. It was very comfortable and had everything you needed. A real home from home. I especially liked the expresso maker which was a real bonus. Oh and the view was amazing, we really enjoyed sitting in the sun room and watching the world go by. Carole was very helpful throughout the whole process and gave us a great recommendation for my dads birthday meal. It was in a great location with lots to see and do close by. We hope to return some day.

Response from the owner Thanks for your review and mentioning the coffee machine. It is always good to know something is useful. Always thrilled to hear The Shieling get such good feedback. I love Warkworth and it is so nice to hear others appreciate its many charms. I do try to provide information on appropriate areas of interest and I hope your Dad had a great birthday. It would be lovely to see you again and please do tell your friends about The Shieling. Carole Ann.

“Wonderful Stay”

Reviewed 30 Sep 2015

We have just returned from a wonderful weeks holiday at The Shieling . The cottage has everything you need for a great holiday and is very comfortable . The setting is fabulous and although other properties are nearby it feels private and is very quiet . There are great views from the property with the sea in the distance and its only a 10 minute drive to the nearest beach ( which is brilliant ) at Warkworth . Warkworth itself is a lovely village and has two pubs along with a great coffee shop / café called Bertrams which we recommend . There is lots to do and see in the vicinity and we recommend Holy Island and if you enjoy seafood Craster ! This was our first holiday to Northumberland and won't be our last .

Response from the owner It was lovely meeting you all and thank you for the kind review. Thanks also for the recommendation to the new restaurant. I went and enjoyed it. Hoping to see you again, Regards, Carole Ann.

“A spacious relaxing property perfect location.”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2015

We have stayed in many self-catering properties in the UK over the last 25 years and can safely put this one in our top three. Spacious property, well equipped, perfectly located to explore Northumberland.. We didn't get a chance to visit all the places we had planned, so looks like we will be booking to come back again !

Response from the owner Good to meet you all and it would be lovely to welcome you back to The Shieling and Northumberland.

“Cracking base from which to explore the many joys of Northumberland”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2015

My wife and I stayed at the Shieling with our 7 month old son and had a fabulous week exploring Northumberland. The property was immaculately clean, had everything that we needed and was extremely comfortable. Carole Ann was there to meet us when we arrived and had lots of helpful recommendations about places to go and things to do (including Cragside, which definitely merits a visit). The bungalow is in a wonderfully peaceful setting, with a fabulous view from the conservatory over the field to the sea. The perfect place for a glass of wine after the baby had gone to bed. We had an amazing holiday - thank you.

Response from the owner Thank you for your kind comments and taking the time to write it. It was lovely meeting you all and hearing you enjoyed spending time in beautiful Northumberland and The Shieling. Carole Ann.

“Comfortable and Spacious - a real 'home from home'”

Reviewed 2 Apr 2015

Very spacious 'wow factor' property. Lovely and warm, well kept and modern. A well equipped and comfortable place to stay in this exceptional and beautiful 'coast and castle' county. Exceptional walking and cycling on the newly-built coastal cycle path. If you are impressed by the surroundings during the day, wait until it gets dark! In this designated 'dark place' you will see stars like you wouldn't believe. The place is awesome. The Masons Arms in Warkworth has free wi-fi. If you need to stay in touch with the outside world, you may need to go for a pint!

Response from the owner Thanks for your comments. We also have WiFi in the cottage now. Carole Ann

“What a lovely surprise!”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2014

The lodge was much more spacious than we had expected. Carole was waiting to welcome us and showed us round. All mod cons were there, almost too many of them! The space was light, airy, warm and spotless. There were plenty of books, including books and games for the children. There was plenty information about what there was to do in the area. Shopping for food was not a problem with large supermarkets in Alnwick and Amble. Although we were there for only three days, we visited Alnwick, Alnmouth beach, Warkworth and Amble. All in all a quiet, super location.

Response from the owner I love Northumberland and enjoy sharing it with my guests. It is great to hear you enjoyed your trip to The Shieling. Thanks for the kind comments. Carole Ann.

“Peaceful location, spacious modern lodge, wonderful views.”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2014

The Shieling is a fantastic place to stay and explore Northumberland. Warkworth and Amble are only minutes away by car for local facilities and attractions whilst the market town of Alnwick with its beautiful gardens and wonderful castle is just a little further. The lodge itself is clean modern, well equipped and spacious and was perfect for our family of 5. The sea view and peaceful location were ideal for relaxing after a busy day of sight seeing
