From the owner

Black Dog House is a lovely place to unwind, relax and enjoy. The house and the surrounding countryside have something to offer all ages and interests. It's grand for couples, groups of friends and families, with flexible accommodation and every comfort provided. The house is actually two 19th Century stone-built terraced cottages, joined together to provide a fine place to stay over 3 floors, and has been fully refurbished - I should know, i was in there grappling the RSJ's through the bedroom window! There is plenty of space for everyone to do their own thing indoors, whilst the front garden is good for breakfast, and the rear yard is a place for evening drinks or a small BBQ. The set-up can be seen quite easily from the pictures, but essentially it's a walk in to the dining room area with a wood burner, then through to a large sitting room with an open fire. The kitchen is off this will a large range of 'stuff' to get cooking with. Out the back there is a small office area with table and computer point with a door to the back yard. A jump over the wall and you're in the fields! Upstairs there are two doubles, one of which has an en-suite, a twin bedded room and a bathroom. On the top floor there is a big room (ideal for locking away children!) with a large combination of beds available. The location itself is hard to beat, with breathtaking moorland, woods, mountains, rivers, SERIOUS waterfalls and charming small towns. If you visit once, you'll likely want to come back for more ....

3 Star Gold self-catering award through the AA Tourism England organisation.

I have been offered four stars for a max of 8, or stick with the Gold award for the higher occupancy which I have done - not that there is any bias involved!

Who has stayed: Since starting two years ago, we have had a huge variety of groups stay, many of which have taken the trouble to give Black Dog House good reviews. It'd be best to read their words below, but in summary I would say we can successfully cater for most peoples needs, so do get in contact if there is anything that you'd like clarifying.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Martin (the owner) a message.

If Martin (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
