Live the country life in this charming tile-hung cottage, situated in the heart of the South Downs National Park, in the village of West Marden. The views from the windows overlook downland and woodland. From the gate, walk straight onto a myriad of footpaths leading in various directions – all with beautiful vistas. The area abounds with wildlife, including deer, badgers, buzzards and red kites. There are many varieties of owls in the area which are a delight to listen to in the early evening.

Although the West Marden surroundings are the countryside at its best, there are two fully stocked and excellent village stores within a short drive, plus easy access to the main cities of Chichester and Portsmouth and all the attractions they offer. Inside this 4 star cottage, oak beams offset the recently refurbished interior of this well-equipped, attractive accommodation. No attention to detail has been overlooked, from the pretty patchwork quilts in the bedrooms, to the authentic Indian carpets on the floors and the sleek lines of the bathroom with its power shower.

Gardener’s Cottage was originally built as gardener's accommodation by Lord Durham who owned the manor house next door.

It offers very comfortable living for 4 people in tastefully furnished accommodation, with a lovely south facing garden and all round rural views.

West Marden is about 8 miles from the historic Roman city of Chichester and its famous cathedral, and about 10 miles from Portsmouth, home of the Navy and the Historic dockyard.

The award winning West Wittering beach is close as is the seaside resort of Hayling Island which boasts superb beaches.

A cot and/or high chair are available for guests use. Please advise at the time of booking. Milk, coffee, tea, a bottle of wine and fresh flowers await your arrival. We like to welcome guests personally between 3.00 and 5.00, but do let us know of your travel plans and we can accommodate them.

The light oak kitchen houses all the modern conveniences you would expect, enabling you to knock up a quick snack to eat al fresco, or a full meal for serious dining if preferred. Alternatively, the village pub is within easy walking distance (three minutes) and serves excellent food in the bar or restaurant. The light and airy lounge has double aspect windows and a characterful solid fuel stove that provides a traditional focal point and extra heating if required. The antique pine dresser holds a good supply of books, magazines, DVD's and tourist information. The lounge lights have been sourced from a Welsh mining lamp company with a central light and one over the dining table. The washing machine is in a separate utility room off the rear lobby, with space for outside gear. Both bedrooms have bedside cupboards and Persian rugs beside the beds, whilst the tiled bathroom floor is supplemented by a deep pile bathmat.

The accommodation has its own private south facing cottage garden with a table, four chairs and sun parasol. There is also a cushioned sunbed for those lazy days and BBQ for summer evenings home cooking. Safe, off-road parking is available for two cars.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Cathy and Ranjit (the owner) a message.

If Cathy and Ranjit (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
