Highly rated purpose built cottage,located at the very end of Birdsferry Road,Ferry Man's Cottage offers an exclusive retreat set in it's own private gardens within our 33 acre property. 2 Km from SHW 6 and located on the edge of a small lake, with only native Wekas and wild Ducks as neighbours this is a most peaceful spot.The native kiwi can be heard calling here at night. Ideally located, midway between the West Coast glaciers and Nelson/Picton,making it the perfect spot to break your journey.

The solid timber cottage is finished to a very high standard and designed to take in the panoramic mountain and ocean views all the luxury touches of Birds Ferry Lodge but with a fully equipped kitchen in your own private setting. Luxurious interiors are warmed by a roaring fire meaning the cottage is cosy at all times of the year.Double garden baths with hot piped water for star gazing at night with a glass of something special There is a TV for those who would miss one and a cd player,magazines and games. WiFi Internet.Cell phone reception is usually good here.

There are 2 Spacious bedrooms 1 Queen with 4 poster bed and the second room has a king twin double bed which can be split to become a twin. There is an additional double sleep sofa in the lounge. Extra beds can be provided for children if required. All rates quoted are for double occupancy. Additional guests $85 per person per night. The cottage has decks and outdoor furniture back and front meaning you can enjoy the sunshine at any time of the day especially those famous West Coast sunsets over the ocean.

The modern bathroom has a shower and a bath and is supplied with large towels and luxury toiletries, hairdryer and heater. The cottage has an ample supply of hot water.

A fully equipped kitchen includes microwave, oven, dishwasher and washing machine. A BBQ is also provided. Your tariff includes a welcome pack of breakfast supplies to get you started with homemade bread and preserves, bacon, our own free range eggs, milk tea and coffee.Cottage Dinners available so you dont have to cook!

Surrounded by beautiful scenery, the cottage is 2km from the main road and accessed from State Highway 6 via our own private road. We are 15 minutes South from Westport and 30 minutes North from Punakaiki.

Hello again and thank you for your review. We need to clarify a few facts for the readers: There is a king bed and a Queen bed, one of each. “Dated appliances”- In New Zealand, for environmental reasons we do not change appliance just for the sake of keeping up to date and since the washing machine works perfectly well we see no need to change it! The kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge and dishwasher are all near new. We are stunned about the harsh comments about the outdoor baths – This feature is heavily used and complimented by many of our other guests so we have to assume it is just not your thing. The baths are antique cast iron and one of them is over 100 years old!!! They have hot piped water, candles and a brazier all of which seems to go down very well with romantics. We do not intend changing anything! Regarding pricing/discounts – you booked on Trip Advisor rentals who take a commission and $50 booking fee – You would have saved money by booking direct on our website. You stayed in high season and we do not offer discount in high season as we operate at 100% occupancy and the season is only 5 months long. We offer a totally unique experience which has high operating costs and charge accordingly. We are not a budget facility.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send A (the owner) a message.

If A (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
