You can enjoy this comfortable light and airy beach cottage offering one of the very best panoramic views at White Beach on the Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania. White Beach is a wonderful base for a busy holiday schedule. It is a 15 minute drive to the historic Port Arthur site, one of Australia's top tourist attractions. The Port Arthur site entry fee will let you explore over 2 days with its 24 hour ticket. Experience the ghost tour after dark.

Several day walks are within a half hour drive from the cottage to the start of the walk. Spend a day walking out to Cape Raoul, or at low tide visit to Shipstern Bluff. If you haven't time for the whole walk, at least make it to the look-out for the most stunning views. Cape Hauy offers spectacular scenery and extensive track work has made this a very popular day walk. Fortescue Bay also offers creative opportunities for those who like to paint, draw or photograph. If you are up for it, surf at Roaring Beach or Shipstern Bluff.

Take a picnic and visit other beaches on the Peninsula, including Slopen Main and Shelly Beach. The historic Coal Mines at Saltwater River offers an excellent convict piece of history to wander around for free. Once again the views there are truly amazing. Don't forget to leave time for visiting the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo park and the Federation Chocolate Factory at Taranna. When you are ready for some food or a coffee visit the Port Arthur Lavender Farm.

While at the cottage, relax in the morning sun while enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the spacious deck. Take in the fantastic beach and water views of the bay here. Observe boats bobbing on their moorings or out for a spot of southern flathead fishing. The calm waters of the bay are also enjoyed by water-skiers, jet skiers and numerous kayakers. If you are bringing a boat you will find room in the back yard for easy parking.

White Beach itself is excellent for long walks to clear away the cobwebs. It is less than 500 metres to the little beach. Once on the little beach, at low tide it is an easy scramble past the boat sheds and rocks onto the main beach. Enjoy beach combing for shells and be sure to spend time exploring the rock pools for crabs, starfish and sea anenomes. White Beach has firm sand which also makes it really pleasant for a run or a bike ride.

If the weather should turn wet or cool, relax on the couch and read, play board games, cards or watch dvds (plenty available, suited to all ages) or have a Netflix fix. There is plenty of lighting so if you bring your knitting, crocheting or stitching you will be able to see well enough to do these at night.

Perhaps you have the urge to whip up a batch of scones or cinnamon scrolls because the fresh sea air activities have given you an appetite. The kitchen is well equipped with a mix-master, measuring utensils and bowls for these spontaneous urges to bake. The kitchen has a dishwasher to aid a quick clean-up. The fridge is a large family sized one with a generous sized freezer on top. Other cooking appliances include an electric wok, electric rice cooker, electric grill for perfect toasted sandwiches and those other meals when you don't want to use the bbq (which is conveniently located on the deck). There is a coffee machine, coffee plunger, a (decent) teapot and a variety of teas for fellow tea lovers.

There are three bedrooms. One bedroom has a double bed and the other two bedrooms contain bunk beds, both with the bottom bed being a double bed and a single bed on top.

We understand many pets are one of the family, but please do let us know if you are travelling with pets and will have them with you at Penguins.

Why Penguins for a name? Once inside the cottage, the reason becomes clear. There are penguin colonies on the Tasman Peninsula, and information regarding where to view the Little (Fairy) Penguin is given in the information booklet at the cottage. The Tasman Peninsula is abundant in bird life. Often you will see black swans, especially in the water around Premaydena. Yellow-tailed black cockatoos are frequent visitors in the banksia trees around the cottage. Honey-eater birds enjoy the nectar of the grevilea bushes. Brightly-coloured green parrots, galahs, wrens and finches are regularly sighted and swallows return in the Spring. Kookaburras frequently perch on the railing of the deck and eye you off with great curiosity. At dusk or early morning, small marsupials including the Eastern barred bandicoots burrow in the front yard, while Bennetts wallabies, paddy melons and other marsupials graze on the grass. Often echidnas and blue-tongue lizards wander through the yard and under the cottage.
