From the owner

Brimble Cottage is an attractively converted spacious granite stone barn at Dockwell Farm, a 400 year old Dartmoor longhouse. The 50 acre farm has cattle, horses, hens, geese, guinea fowl, dogs and cats. The farm is in a Higher Level Stewardship scheme with Natural England; four fields are also designated as a County Wildlife Site for the variety of hay meadow species including orchids. The cottage is on a very quiet lane; if you hear footsteps in the night it will be ponies trotting by from the nearby common. The Two Moors Way long distance footpath passes the door, linking Dartmoor and Exmoor.

The Farm is surrounded by open moorland and rocky tors with extensive views and grazing cattle and sheep. The area is rich in archaeological remains - hut circles, burial chambers and ancient field boundaries. The deserted medieval settlement of Hutholes adjoins the farm.

Brimble Cottage is superbly situated for walking from the door - north to the high expanse of Hameldown including Grimspound, or south along the sheltered West Webburn valley which is a haven for flora and fauna including the cuckoo and the rare Marsh fritillary butterfly. The village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor is one and a half miles away with two welcoming pubs. The nearest towns for shopping are Ashburton and Bovey Tracey, both about 15 minutes' drive. Princetown, Chagford, Totnes, Dartmouth and Exeter are attractive destinations. South Devon coast resorts are about one hour away.

But in our opinion, the best thing to do is to park the car outside the cottage, and let Dartmoor cast its spell.........

Dogs are welcome; they need to be pre-booked and there is a £10 a week charge per dog. There is an enclosed garden (terrace) at the back of the cottage. You are also welcome to exercise dogs in the farm fields, but please check with us first on the whereabouts of livestock.

Short breaks of less than a week are charged at 70% of the weekly rate.

Brimble Cottage has a Sky + HD box with a Sky Sports package, free wifi and central heating.
