--------Authentic 18 foot Sioux Tipi, handmade and painted by the artists at Nomadics Tipi Makers in Oregon. The tipi overlooks a waterfall on the Sawkill Creek that runs through our estate. Across the river is Comeau Park, with a 2 mile walking trail.
The center of Woodstock Village [and the bus station] is a half mile walk. There is a circular fireplace in the center of the tipi and another stone fireplace outside overlooking the waterfall.

The regular season is mid-April into November. While it can be kept warm and cozy in winter - we have been fine overnight at 10 degrees, we feel many guests would not have the right gear nor sufficient winter camping experience to appreciate it, so we take it down and store it for winter.
If you are coming early or late in the season, nights are likely to be chilly, and keeping the fire going is needed to keep warm and cozy.
The photos show many details. The tipi and most of the furnishings are custom made: the tipi and liner, the bed and futon sofa bed, a solar reverse painted lamp, shelves and counter tops, the dream catcher over the bed, the circular central fireplace inside the tipi, and the hexagonal firescreen.
On the estate there is an outside shower and kitchen sink for your use. There is an outhouse for Tipi guests' use. We have a 'Tipi Room' with its own entrance set up exclusively for use by the Tipi guests. [See Map - We will send an enlarged copy of the map on this website] Nothing fancy, it has a desk, and chair, refrigerator, electric, and wireless internet access. The Tipi Room is not heated. We have a solar electric power setup for the tipi that powers 2 CFL lamps, and an inverter with enough AC power for charging small electronic devices. If you need more power, there's electric in the tipi room.
We provide seasoned firewood, plus cooking pots, pans, plates and utensils, salt, pepper, cooking oil, matches, soap, paper towels, bathroom tissue, dish detergent, trash bags, scrubbies, candles, and a complimentary bottle of our favorite chardonnay [in the fridge]. There is a Coleman propane camping cooking range with 2 burners in case you wish to cook or boil water without making a fire. Outside, there is a propane barbecue grill. There is a fireplace next to the river overlooking the waterfall with a table and bench in front of it. [see photos].
The mattress in the tipi is a double, plus there is a futon couch that folds down to make a 40' X 75' bed, [slightly smaller than a regular double bed] if you have more than 2 people. The futon is small for two people, but possible.
You can bring your own sleeping bags. If you don't, there are sheets, pillowcases and quilts in the tipi room for you to make the bed[s].
When we first set up the tipi at this location in May 2013, we stayed there 2 nights to check it out. The second night, the fire sent a shower of sparks that put burn marks in the bed. So we have custom made a hexagonal fire screen to prevent that in future. [see photos]. In our study and use of tipis over the last 45 years, this is unique in our experience, and a great improvement in safety.
Near the road are trash cans for your use. We expect guests to leave everything as clean and orderly as they find it. Follow the campers' code: "If you carry it in, carry it out."
In December, the tipi is taken down and stored for the winter.
Check in 1 PM, Check out 12 noon.
Caveat for spring and fall camping:
If you have no experience with making and maintaining campfires, we suggest your first stay in a tipi be when the overnight temperatures are unlikely to be cold, mid-May to late September. So long as the fire is kept going well, you can be comfortable inside the tipi with a sweater or light jacket - or under the quilts at night - even when the temperature is in the 20's or lower. Overnight, that means keeping the fire stoked during the night. Since being able to build and maintain a good fire is essential in cold weather, we have prepared a "Campfire Primer" with photos and step by step instructions that we send along to our guests.
If you'd like to check out all our seven retreats, here's how to view them: From any of our listings, click on my photo, then, next page you come to, click my photo again. Then on that page, scroll down and click "view all listings" and you'll come to our seven retreats.
Note: We keep the tipi available into late fall / early winter, then take it down and store for the winter. I you are considering booking in late October or November, be prepared for cold weather. It could be balmy, or it could be cold. We love cold weather camping but you do need to be prepared for it to be comfortable.
