Nestled up in the mountains above the little Taiwanese Aboriginal beach town of Dong Ao, The Big Rock Candy Mountain Taiwan offers a rustic breakaway far away from big city pollution, noisy neighbors or any other worldly worries.
A fair note of warning. We are located in the jungle in the mountains and we are 3km from the town. So be prepared to buy food in town before coming up the mountain. There is one Family Mart (convenience store) and a limited general store. There is no fresh produce available to buy from stores in Dong Ao. In the early morning in Dong Ao village from 7-10 am there is a vendor that sells fresh produce (veggies and fruit) and frozen meat.
Also, bring bug spray, it is the jungle and there are mosquitoes. A flashlight is not a necessity, but if you would like to go on a night walk it is absolutely necessary. We are in the jungle and it is not uncommon to encounter snakes. Especially in the warmer months.
There is a world class surf break 20 minutes away, super good snorkeling (especially in the summer), waterfalls, rock jumping, beach bumming, kayaking, mountain biking, Olympic quality hatchet throwing court, Dong Yue cold spring....you get the picture.
