Location description from owner

The KwaZulu-Natal region

The Darnall tennis and bowling club encourage visitors on a Wednesday and Saturday. This sports club is well known for its friendly atmosphere.

The adjacent Darnall Club is where locals and visitors meet in the warm atmosphere of the ladies bar and Roy's restaurant (Millers Arms) is know as the best 'value for money' in the area.

Visit nearby Stanger - it's a blend of Afro-Asian culture. Bargain with Haroon over his magnificent imported Indian fabric.

Visit White house where the variety of arts & crafts available would keep you busy all year.

Try the local Indian street food or sit on the roof top restaurant at Jay's corner where you can absorb local flavour over a curry lunch. Manjeerah's boasts the best selection of herbs and curry powders to take home.

Dining out at Tinley Manor's 'Impulse' is recommended as is 'Cindy's' on the circle in Umhlali for Indian and Mauritian specialities. Call here on your way to Ballito.

For a change from the beach we encourage you to drive to nearby Harold Johnson Game Reserve, fifteen km away. Walking trails lead through magnificent indigenous bush where a great variety of birds can be seen as well as the occasional impala, common duiker, red and blue duiker.

For shopping we recommend Ballito. Lifestyle centre at the first circle has a great variety of popular shops and restaurants.

Zinkwazi Beach

Zinkwazi (Nkwazi) is a small village in a coastal conservancy on the magnificent Dolphin coast of KwaZulu-Natal. The name is taken from the Zulu word for “white-headed fish eagle”, an apt name for this area as it is well known for its prolific bird life and the fact that it forms part of the Zululand Birding Route.

The area is a sub-tropical paradise with an unspoilt 7 km long lagoon opening out onto a protected beach surrounded by lush indigenous forest and tropical palms. The beach is the most northern shark protected beach on the North Coast and the lagoon is ideal for the kids to safely swim in. The beach is manned by lifeguards.

Zinkwazi is well known for its incredible bird life and its proximity to the Zululand Birding Route - a conservation project that promotes birding tourism by offering up-to-date information, local guides, brochures and itineraries for birders in an area where some 600 species have been recorded.

The town only has one shop where basics can be bought but it is less than an hour's drive to the shopping malls of Ballito and Umhlanga and only 85 km from Durban. There are a number of homes lining the beach but development has not been allowed to spoil this ecological gem.

Some of the best golf courses on the coast are within an easy drive – 15 minutes to Princes Grant and 30 minutes to Umhlali (two of the top hundred courses in South Africa).
