Fantastic views from this deceptively large 300 year old cottage in Matlock Bath. Local area brilliant for walking in the Peak district or visiting Chatsworth House, Crich tramway museum, Bakewell, Peak railway. Artists Cottage has a wood burning stove in the dining ar

Thank you Jason for your review although I feel some of your points are a little economical with the full facts, but you have your opinion and I will now respond hopefully in a fair way. You are correct there is a brown patch on the outside wall of the porch which I have had on good authority from a surveyor that if you do anything with this it will move the problem elsewhere within the property. I have no idea if you now anything about 300 year old properties or indeed have one but this is not a problem I wish to make worse, and the wall is painted on a regular basis. There has never been another door after the front door and nobody has ever complained about this before I assume this is because the house is perfectly safe and all locked up from the front door. You have stated I was in Spain I was actually on my annual holiday which I hope is ok to have? You have made it sound as if I were in Spain as a matter of regularity. I informed you of a problem with the heating as soon as the lady who cleaned for me while I was away let me know and I also arranged and had my plumber go round which I also informed you of, but I could get no response from yourself and nor could my plumber standing at the front door waiting to fix the problem (which he did as soon as he gained access the next day). The guests after you reported absolutely no problems with the heating. I had also contacted you and gave you my phone number while I was away should you have had any problems and not once did you try to contact myself had you done so we could have had the discussion about heating or as you say lack of (my cleaning lady told me the heating was working??) did you put the thermostat up and check the radiators where on as when I came back from my holiday half of them where turned off! I do not as a general rule supply coal or logs as I supply gas central heating in your case though had you contacted me we could have sorted something out. As regards the cooker I have never had a problem with it and nor has anybody else complained about it (I do wonder if maybe you cook with electric at home). The garden has a few bushes that have become a little straggly over the winter and it has been difficult to get in there because of the weather because as you have pointed out yes it had been raining and snowing also did you expect me to get someone to come and wipe the solid stone steps down for you because of the snow of course they will be slippery just like any other stone steps in the nasty weather. I am sorry this is beyond my control. I have noted that you didn't mention anything about the brand new 4 piece bathroom/shower that was quite expensive to instal for your greater comfort. I do not expect you to read emails when you are away but in light of all your complaints it may have been wiser to have had a look and maybe try to contact me. I do feel you thought because you were on your honeymoon you would get more of a welcome tray than any other guest who stays at the cottage but you paid the same and you received the same
(which we never even received a thank you for which we normally receive from every guest who stays) Im sorry but I do feel you thought you should receive more and that is why you have provided such a poor review but thank you anyway for taking the time to write this and lets hope it doesn't detract other people from booking what is essentially a lovely stone built 300 year old cottage which takes a lot of looking after and time and money which Im sure you don't fully appreciate.
