The guest complained on the day of his arrival, that he was not happy that there was no recliner, and that the bed was smaller than the photograph and was uncomfortable. He stated that the recliner and the large bed were the reasons that he had chosen our cottage. I immediately offered him a full refund, and termination of the stay, or a 10% refund for his inconvenience. He said that he wished to continue his stay, and would accept the refund, which I immediately transferred to his bank account.
With respect to his comments, what can I say? Well, I'll try! Firstly, he is completely right on some points:
I did pop into the garden unannounced, totally wrong, but I stupidly thought that a quick in-and-out to retrieve my sackbarrow next to the gate would avoid disturbing them. Reason is that our washing machine had given up the ghost and I needed the sackbarrow to move it to the skip. Wrong move. My only mitigation is that, having agreed with him before the holiday that I needed to call at the house to retrieve some items that we were unable to do previously as we were in Spain, my experience on meeting him at the agreed time was that of a very unhappy person. I therefore was reluctant to ask him for more help. As I say, wrong move, which I shall never repeat again. I venture to suggest that, regarding scaring the life out of his wife and dog is concerned seemed harsh, as on my leaving, his wife came to the gate to see who it was.
Furniture-wise, yes, a sofa was replaced, because a few weeks prior to his arrival, the recliner broke and was removed, replaced with a sofa to match the remaining one. I changed the details, with the exception of the description under the photograph, relating to the recliner. My mistake.
As for the bed, the original photograph was of two single beds placed together, which we replaced with a new king-sized bed, with a very expensive brand new pocket-sprung mattress, which is purposely on the softer side, and is now two years old. My mistake, again, was that I should have updated the photograph.
With regard to the parking, our cottage is advertised as a one-bedroom accommodation. Yes, we do leave one vehicle parked tightly at one end of the drive, but this leaves plenty of room for two cars, which I would suggest is pretty generous, considering that parking is as rare as "hen's teeth" on Victoria Road.
Our Sky system is Sky Plus, which is a full system, less Sky films, as mentioned under the living room photograph, so I cannot understand his complaint in this regard.
Lessons have been learnt. I can only take heart that it is unlikely that the guest will avail himself of our facilities again, but nevertheless I am pleased that he enjoyed his stay.

I am pleased you liked the area. This chalet is basically for people with dogs and it is clearly advertised as such. If you are not doggy people, then perhaps you need to look for places where dogs are not allowed in future? People seem to like the fact that it's a homely chalet as they can relax with their dogs without worrying too much. Unfortunately, these chalets have to have the damp collectors as they are not well ventilated. It is due to be decorated again shortly.
