Playa Lapa is a privately owned ocean front residence in remote Carate, Costa Rica, only two miles from the Corcovado National Park. The Casa is tucked deep in a grove of lowland palms, right on the beach facing the Pacific Ocean and insulated from the rest of the world by jungle on either side. The thundering surf pounds relentlessly against this prime turtle nesting area, and creates a continuous and exciting background for the parrots and shore birds by day, and the frogs and other jungle creatures by night. The magnificence of this vast and undeveloped beach is one of Playa Lapa's most alluring natural attractions which you can enjoy from any of the shaded outdoor living areas surrounding the Casa, as well as from the upper observation deck or bedroom.

With the proximity of primary rainforest on the adjacent mountain, Carate has abundant wildlife, hiking trails, streams and the Pejeperrito lagoon, creating a variety of activities for visitors.

Playa Lapa comes with solar hot water, outdoor shower, 4 kayaks, boogie boards, 5 hammocks, beach chairs and towels, Sarchi deck furniture, fully equipped kitchen, and a small library of nature books. There is a guest assistant on the property to help you with questions, kayaks or coconuts!!

Cellular internet is available a few steps from the casa, using a local KOLBI SIM card in your smart phone. Playa Lapa is truly a unique destination: Corcovado National Park to the west, the lagoon to the east, the ocean and miles of unspoiled beach in front, and the jungle behind. For a memorable experience of intimacy with nature, plus personal comfort and convenience, there is really nothing quite like Casa Playa Lapa.

Tours should be scheduled in advance of your arrival to be sure of availability of guides. A kayak tour is recommended on your first morning, to learn the lay of the land, where to enter the lagoon, what to look for and what to avoid. The kayaks will be available thereafter for your use whenever you want.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I cancel my booking?

Go to Manage your holiday booking to cancel your booking. Here you can view your cancellation policy to see if you’ll be refunded.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Helene (the owner) a message.

If Helene (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
