We have been offering our traditional Cornish Cottages to generations of families, couples and individuals for their holidays for almost 40 years with many of our guests returning year after year.Girl Annie is located in Vellandreath (also known as Vellan Dreath) is a beautiful, privately owned unspoilt valley designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty by the National trust. Located in by the beach known as Whitesands bay but also known as Sennen beach and Gwynver Beach in Sennen within West Penwith (the Land’s End peninsula) which is the southernmost area of England, and the most picturesque part of Cornwall. It is rich in dramatic beaches, wooded valleys, moorland, rolling farmland, and hidden coves; much of it is designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The far South West is warmed by south westerly breezes from the Azores, and is one of the most unpolluted areas in Britain. It has a special, indefinable quality recognized by locals and visitors alike. Its 144 square miles still supports an active small scale farming and fishing community, with a unique beauty that draws visitors back year after year. The coastline is full of beaches, ranging from safe bathing beaches to secluded coves to wild and rocky places. Some are easily accessible and some less so. Although there are several traditional seaside resorts for family visitors, the area also attracts walkers, naturalists, artists, and anyone seeking a quiet haven, with amenities close by. The sea is crystal clear, jade green, and a comfortable swimming temperature into late autumn. The Land’s End peninsula is in the path of the warm Gulf Stream, and cold weather is rare. Frost and snow are rare, and the climate is ideal for semi-tropical plants, many of which can be seen in Vellandreath’s valley gardens West Penwith also has more ancient sites than any other area of Britain, ranging from stone age to iron age monuments and settlements. These include four stone circles, 90 standing stones, and numerous hill forts, village settlements, quoits, and burial barrows. There are dozens of beaches on the Land’s End peninsula and they are amongst the most unpolluted in Europe. They range from safe, sandy family beaches with lifeguards to wild and rocky coves. There are many coves where the access is difficult, with wonderfully crowd-free bathing, and others with car parks adjacent to popular resorts. The water is clear and jade-coloured; superb for swimming and surfing, and the beaches are ideal for sun bathing. Beaches vary from sandy to rocky and pebbly, and some have safe and shallow bathing for children, many have nearby shops and cafes catering for family visitors, but it is also easy to find remote and private places. The local inn and the attractive little fishing harbour of Sennen Cove are only 10 minutes’ walk across the vast expanse of the

Response from the manager
Dear guest, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry the bedroom smelt of mould. The cottage had been standing empty through winter and you were our first guest of the year in the middle of very wet winter. Upon the deep clean prior to your arrival we did spot some mould around the the window frame in the main bedroom and we did deal with this and remove it but sadly it appears thatbthe smell did linger. We appreciate it was bad, cold and wet weather during your winter stay which made it difficult to air the property properly to remove the fusty smell. Unfortunately you only made us aware of the problem upon your departure so we were not able to help you during your stay as we did not know that the smell remained and that there was a problem - we thought we had dealt with the problem effectively. We did try to respond to your telephone calls but could not get through to you and there was no voicemail for us to leave a message. We did also respond to your email and are surprised that you say you did not receive a response from us. We pride ourselves on our cottages presentation and Girl Annie is a wonderful cottage and is normally very popular with our guest, it has the positive reviews to show that. That said we are sorry we did not meet your expectations and we will make sure this problem does not happen again.

A beautiful place
May 2019

We booked this for our first holiday with Frankie our young dog, and we all loved staying there. Fabulous beaches and unspoilt views. We have booked again for next year.

Response from the manager
Dear valued Guest, For the most part, we couldn't agree with you more ! Girl Annie is indeed a family cottage with its second bedroom listed as a bunk bed room with a single bed and a built in bed, best for children. We do clearly advertise this on our website, recommending the second bedroom best for children and Girl Annie's capacity as a family cottage. We also clearly show a photograph, amongst others, of the second bedroom room showing its size and its beds. It is perfect for kids ! We have many glowing reviews of Girl Annie, it truly is a lovely cottage. Whilst we do sometimes get groups of 4 adults staying in Girl Annie, who are mostly surfers making use of the slightly cheaper comparative rental rate and amazing sea, beach and surf break views, we would not recommend this cottage for a group of 4 adults for some of the reasons you have listed. We value and listen to all our guests comments and opinions but we are disappointed with your review which we feel is based on not reading our clear, listed details on our website prior to booking your stay which we clearly ask all guests to do upon booking to make sure that the accommodation they are paying for is suitable for them. Our guests can only book via our website. If you had asked us if the clearly list second bunk bed room, best for kids was suitable for adults we would have definitely suggested that it was not and we would have added that if you elected to book the cottage regardless of that fact, then that would be your decision. After catering to our many returning guests (and for the most part being fully booked) for almost 40 years we are sincerely not in the business of hoodwinking valued guests into staying with us under false pretences. We do have and did have at the time of your booking other neighbouring cottages in Vellandreath Valley which would have suited 4 adults very well indeed, with double bedrooms, bigger sleeping areas and ensuite if required. But they would have naturally cost a little more. We deeply regret that that you did not elect to book one of them and if you had asked at the time we would have tried to move you into one of those cottages, if possible. We really are here to help our guests and sadly, despite previous correspondence from ourselves we haven't heard from you until now, 6 months after your stay. Please forgive me for pointing this out but, we cannot help solve an issue we are not aware of. If only you had raised this issue whilst you were staying with us and we would have done our best to help you, regardless of the situation. We do hope you come back to us. We do feel this is a genuine oversight and we would recommend our cottage, Castaways which is a few metres away from Girl Annie. Castaways is perfect for 4 adults. Vellandreath Valley in Sennen and its holiday cottages is a wonderful place, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Please visit our own website : www . vellandtreathcornishcottages .com to see countless exemplary reviews from many discerning guests who stay with us year after year. We highly value or clients experience and Im truly sorry for your grievance which we take seriously. Best wishes, Vellandreath Cornish Cottages
