The flat is located in the historic center of London, right near Tower Bridge and walking distance to the Tower of London. The taxi costs in London are high indeed as it's a very large metropolitan area and the rate taxi charges are not connected with the flat whatsoever. Taxi is the most expensive way to travel in London (and other EU cities)
There are many alternative and less expensive, eg. the Tube would cost about 3-5 pounds one way. The National Bus to Victoria station is 6 pounds and from there you can take the tube for their standard rate of 2 pounds or so or a bus for around 1 pound as well.
I did not suggest that you should take the taxi and you did not inquire about travel options from airports so I assumed that you learned about the choices on your own.
I am also surprised that you say that the flat is old. Compared to other London flats, the building of the flat is a "baby" as it was built only c. 25 years ago. It is a modern building that won many awards.
The flat has modern conveniences and brand new appliances. Eg. the washing machine was recently installed.
I am not sure what has influenced your opinion in this way as I was at your services 24/7 and replied to your requests immediately.
I also provided you with a brand new kettle overnight as you said the old one was not working, however I have turned on the switch on the wall as I asked you for this and the kettle is working normally.
