From the owner

The Moat House is an expansive house which has been recently renovated, with large rooms and a very high standard of disabled/wheelchair facilities. It is the ideal location to explore Dumfries & Galloway, The Lake District, The Scottish Borders, Hadrians Wall Country and beyond by rail/car.

History

This large (400m2) property is located on the moat bank of an ancient Mott and Bailey castle that was once the home of the de Brus family, the ancestors of "Robert the Bruce" who was featured in the film "Braveheart". The house itself was once the home of the famous poet Rev James Graham who wrote "The Sabbath".

Rooms & Beds

The house will sleep 10 comfortably in the 5 large bedrooms but will sleep up to 17 using the extra beds and spaces in the house.

The large lounge seats up to 17 with a combination of sofas, armchairs and bean bags. It features a large screen Smart TV with DVD and HiFi, piano, games & karaoke.

The farmhouse style kitchen has a large extendable oak table which can seat up to 17 utilising additional chairs available from outside or shed.

Garden to rear of house with beds, patios and covered BBQ and dining area.

Smoking is permitted outside the house however we request that you dispose of ash and buts appropriately in the ashtray outside the back door or otherwise.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Martin (the owner) a message.

If Martin (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
