From the owner

Located near the sea front and in Hastings historic old town, Potting Cottage offers the ideal escape for a romantic weekend for two or for a longer and leisurely break. It is an early 19th century fisherman's cottage that oozes charm and cosiness. Attached at its side is a smoke house that the fishermen would use to prepare the days catch of fish. Made fully residential in the late 1970's, both the smoke house and the cottage have been recently converted into this snug hideaway for holiday makers. The conversion retains the cottages rustic character while having been transformed into a special and stylish holiday home experience.

COTTAGE DESCRIPTION

From the moment you enter, you will set your eyes upon the living room's centre piece the original early 19th century stone fire place newly restored and equipped with a with a wood burning stove. The room has solid wooden floors a 2 seater sofa and an antique wooden armchair. There is a 32" LCD TV with built in DVD and Firestick. The living room also contains a wooden dining table that seats four. Accessed by patio doors, is a small private courtyard which can be lit by fairy lights, the courtyard is equipped with a portable barbeque and four chairs and table.

Located in the lower part of the old smoke house, the kitchen is compact and equipped for all needs containing a four ring ceramic hob cooker, washing machine, dish washer, undercounter fridge freezer and microwave. There is also a kettle, toaster and stove top espresso maker. The kitchen has a supply of spices, herbs, oil & vinegar, tea, coffee and sugar.

On the first floor you will discover the atmospheric bedroom with a vaulted ceiling from which hangs a vintage chandelier. The room contains a small built in cupboard and a TV, DVD and Freeview. the comfortable king size bed can be easily detached into two single beds. From the bedroom you have access to the bathroom, which was converted from the top part of the smoke house. Here you will find a walk in shower, toilet, basin, mirrored bathroom cabinet containing a shaver point and heated towel rail.

The cottage is ideally suited for one or two adults as it contains one bedroom with en suite bathroom. However the main bed can be divided into two single beds if required. Please note that although the cottage is on two floors the general layout is open plan and the only access to the bathroom is through the bedroom. We can not accept more than two guests per booking. We are happy to have up to two small house trained dogs stay for an extra cost of £25.00 per booking, we provide a roll out bed and food and water bowls. Towels and bedsheets are provided. we also provide beach towels for in the warmer months. The cottage has free WiFi. There is a picnic hamper and a portable barbeque left for you to take out on days to the beach or the East Hill country park.

As the cottage is situated on a twittern (footpath) there is no parking, however there are 2 pay and display carparks about 5 to 10 mins walk away and for loading and un-loading you can use an adjacent street. Within the Old Town everything is within walking distance so a car isn't a necessity.

Do also be aware that as this is a coastal town there is naturally a noticeable population of sea gulls and sometimes they can be noisy.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Helen (the owner) a message.

If Helen (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
